what is the difference in ratio between 2nd and 3rd?
maybe timing is incorrect? what are the AFR's now?
guy's,
im having some problem here. Hope u guys can help.
just a brief thru my spec. ori 1.6l engine, bolt on turbo. IHI VF10, 2.5" downpipe. 2.5" piping till 2" inlet straight flow exhaust. Control by emanage. Auto gearbox. Boost 0.9bar
from standstill, (gear select manually) from 1st gear -2nd gear, my car does pull hard. Can see the speed climb fast. But once in 3rd gear, the car dun pull hard anymore. The speed wasnt climb that fast also. But boost still maitain though.
on cruising (120-130kmh), D gear selection, if i tekan, the boost reach 0.9bar with ease but the car speed wasnt climb that fast.
What can be wrong? If Gb slip, i would have problem with 1st-2nd gear already. Dynoed 155whp @ 5800rpm and 200nm wtq @ 4500rpm. My suspect could be having low torque.
But the catch is here. It only happen after i dyno tune my car. last time whn i havent tune my car, i dun have this problem. I was told be4 tune im running very lean.
Any input?

hm... finding the ratio between 2nd and 3rd gear is difficult. Let me google around and see if there is any luck. As for AFR, here it is...
well, it's running fairly rich now.. what about timing?
maybe the combination of low timing and lean before was better for power than now, with a better mixture.. ie, timing needs altering.

OC, do you have a babelfish in your ear? cause i can't even seet he question there, unless its "cars dont accelerate as quickly in high gears as in low gears" which is more a statement.
Could the clutch be slipping a little?

ok, my bad,
"cars dont accelerate as quickly in high gears as in low gears" is my problem

so you do think its more on tuning issue instead of hardware?
bro, wun the slip clutch be more obvious on lower gear sprint?Originally Posted by mtp_69_i
Nah matey, a slipping clutch gives itself away under load. If you're trying to accelerate hard in 3rd or 4th there is much more load on the clutch than when you do it in 1st or 2nd.Originally Posted by normality78
Try this;
take off slowly and change into 4th at very low speed (like 25km/hr). Once in 4th mash the accelerator and see what the engine does, if the clutch is slipping the motor should start to increase in revs without actually moving the car any faster.

myp_69_i, the gearbox is auto... the convertor might be slipping more but...
SBS.. yes.. i do call it 3 years practice ..
as for hardware vs tuning...
in higher gears it will be slower than lower gears, because of the ratios.
if it feels slower now in higher gear, after it was tuned then either
a) it is making more torque everywhere, so you don't feel the "push".... ie it is faster but doesn't feel as fast..
or b), after richening the mixture up, the tuner did not put in enough timing.. so it is actually slower... or they put in too much fuel... etc etc...
did you race it on 1/4 mile before the tune? (to have something to compare to?)
in other words... is it actualyl slower, or just feels slower?

sh!t sorry about missing that. I totally didn't see it in the first post.

me thinks his 3rd gear ratio is far from the 2nd gear ratio?
either that or the expectation that 3rd gear will have the same acceleration as 2nd gear needs to be toned down?
i'd have thought that if the torque converter was slipping, under full boost in 3rd gear the revs would jump but the speedometer wouldn't move very much?

nop. I didnt race 1/4 mile. normally just some street drag among friends and occasionally some high speed when travelling long distance.Originally Posted by oldcorollas
its not about the feel though. due to im having auto, i do aware there isnt much G i can feel so normally i do pay notice on speed.
perhaps i should get it retune and see how it goes.
