3TGTE or 3TGTEU?

I was wondering if someone can help me with identifying my engine? What's the difference between a 3TGTE and a 3TGTEU?

None as far as I know.
I think the "U" is some kind of emmisions standard thingamebob.
There is an Engine code explanation in the FAQ. It's a good read.

Just read the post about engine codes.
The U means it has emission controls and maybe a catalytic converter.

Every one I've seen is a 3T-GTEU, even though most people just say 3T-GTE. Didn't seem that much emissions gear on them anyway.

U is the japanese spec emissions package, while C is the californian one, corresponding to the year of the manufacture of the engine.

Hi,

The "U" usually denotes a lower compression to meet with emission standards and to use lower octane fuel.

The "U" engines, normally aspirated, are lower in power than their equivalent non "U" engine.
