    Default 4ac mods

I know your going to hit me with "Why didn't you search first", but I tried to and it wouldn't bring anything up on the 4ac because it is too short. I just kept getting posts on mods for all kinds of motors. I was wondering what cheap, easy mods I could perform to a 4ac motor. I already have setup my intake to accept a marine boat filter, I don't know if you consider that a mod or not but its there.

everyone's going to say to get rid of it and jsut put a 4age in but if your keen for something alittle different.

paradise racing makes some carb adaptor plates and cams for the 4ac if your keen to give it a go, best thing about the 4ac is that eveyone wants to get rid of them so you can get them for next to nothing (well in Oz anyway)

so if you dont mind killing your engine and putting another one in evey few months then give these a go

    Step 1: Remove 4AC
    Step 2: Install 4AGE
    Step 3: ???????????
    Step 4: Profit

Being serious, you already have engine mounts and a box that will mate to 4AGE, so if you are looking for more power ditch the 4AC and go twin cam. You can pick up complete running motors for like $500, and make more power much easier then working a 4AC

The usual tricks work. Bigger carb (32/36 Weber off a Cortina? has been used), bigger cam, make yourself a better exhaust manifold, free up the intake by removing any restrictive crap. Though I have heard that the head itself is amazingly restrictive.

Or turbo it on the dodge (ala Dave from AJPS's old steed). 8.0:1 factory compression loves the turbo.

But yes, you'd usually be best off fitting a 4AGE and modding that with any loose change left.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

fit webber carb, get your cam reground, exhaust system and make up some extractors. If you can get machining work done cheap then shave the head to up the compression, maybe clean up the ports a bit. then advance the timing and run higher ron fuel. my mate has done most of this and his car goes really well for what it is.

But how much has he spent? And to make how much power? I reckon you would get more bang for your buck by going to a GE

Dont know how much it would all add up to. i'm just answering his question on what cheap mods he can do to a 4ac like he asked. i'm not going to say "just put a 4age in it" like every other person above me has posted...

Thanks for the quick response guys, I expected the whole "swap a 4age" I thought about it but I kinda wanna just get a little umph out of the 4ac. I'm gonna get a weber progressive and slap it on for sure but I was just curious about other mods since I couldn't really find anything on google. (freaking math equations!) I live in San Antonio, Texas and there isn't a huge rolla fan base. Its great to find some enthusiasts. BTW I'm a big DSMer and this site is alot faster than dsmtuners so kudos!! You'll be seeing me around more!

Basically go with a freer flowing exhaust, better intake (which you have done), bigger camshaft and carby as said above but I wouldn't recommend the 32/36 Weber as they are very hard to get running right. I'd say you would be better off getting something like a 350 holley...
