To be honest, don't bother wasting your time because getting power out of a 4ac is like getting blood from a stone

Apart from a massive carby sticking through the bonnet there's not much else worth doing and you'd still be getting 50fwkw if that. Spend some extra money and get a 4age I had a 4ac, ripped it out and sold it for $100 because it was in good nick with 85000km...best mod ever

Apart from that, attaching a nice long chain to it and using it as an anchor for a boat is also a good mod. Cheap and easy

Any reason a 4afc isnt a good idea?
Dont know what the pistons are like, but it *might* be as easy as a head swap.
No fucking around with fuel lines, just a straight 8v - 16v swap.
That is, assuming the engine can live with the 8v cutouts in the pistons.

ive seen that last response a fair few times on ae86dc and it seams more trouble then building a more powerful 4ac or even putting a 4age in (p plate laws and mod's was the reasion they were trying to work it out)

whats this 4ac in, you havnt said yet.

lolz... just making sure cuz someone a few post back said 50fwhp... making sure i didnt miss anything

if your keen for power on the cheep maybe try the K serise engines?

just swap your x member with a ke70 and get cracking... ive read/heard of some places putting out some decent power from 3k's and 5k's and the ever rare 7k (1.8ltr found in hiace's?) and there would be a slight bit more after market parts out there than the 4ac im pretty sure.

Well, I've got a 1990 Mitsubishi GSX, and its gonna be my project car. The ae71 isn't gonna be around much longer, I'm trading it for another 83' corolla coupe probably. It also has a 4ac. It has a rebuilt head and carbie but the the block has about 200,000 miles on it. Its gonna be my daily driver and just wanted to see what I could do to get it to pull better. I had thought about a head swap but I would have to change pistons because the cut outs are wrong on the heads from my understanding. I'm not interested in swapping the 4age yet due to the urgency of me needing a car. And I want to apologize but I don't understand any of the number conversion you fine gentlemen use. (yeah I know, I'm a stupid American, lol).

well if your just fixing it up for a daily and you have your GSX as the project...

jsut get a rebuild, cheep and easy and will make it better of fuel aka "gas" (lolz) maybe a nice tuned carbie, some good spark plugs, leads and a set of extractors on the cheep will give your new 4ac a bit more pep then your old one.

and youll save money doing better on your fuel econ. so you can spend more on your GSX.

iirc the 4af isnt interference and thus doesnt need cutouts.
I think toyota just put them there on the off chance that the belt snaps when you're valve bouncing at 9000rpm.
    I could be wrong though

I knew I'd seen a thread somewhere. Try reading through that. If I remember correctly the cam regrind turned out okay, the carbie did not...

    Cheers,

Get some extractors and an ex sytem, i think you can put a pintara air filter or something for a little extra flow then get a cam ground, maybe go a little more than i did for a better result, then stop spending money on it!

I hava a spare cam if your interested?

    Any questions?

But seriously, for every dollar you spend you get more and better results with a 4AGE. Even a bog-stock 4AGE will be a much better thing than a somewhat modified 4AC.

what if class regs limit you to a 4ac engine.. such as if you wanted to rally an AE71?

i know you could do it jap style and go 2tg, but im wondering if you could get away with using a 4age bottom end (say blacktop bottom) with a fully worked 4ac head. surely it would make for a better motor than a 2tg?

this is the reason people run carbs on 4AGE's
