hmm... did you remember to put the belt guide back on before the harmonic balancer?
I'm having an issue with the timing belt on my gt4. the belt vibrates/buzzes rapidly between 2200 and 2500 rpm.. looks like its loose but its been tightened, it vibrates between the exhaust side camshaft sprocket and water pump..
there is less than 2mm gap between timing belt tensioner and pulley as specified in bgb.. tensioner is not leaking at piston and seems to have enough pressure.. belt is about 20,000km's old.
when the belt starts to vibrate i notice that the pulley moves back a millimetre or so, not sure if this is normal or not
also in the bgb it says to adjust the timing to 60deg ATDC before you tighten bolts for timing belt tensioner.. anyone know why it says to do this??
I'm guessing either the tensioner is rooted, i havn't installed it correctly or the belt has stretched .. any idea's??

yep i'm pretty sure, how could that be a problem if the belt is vibrating up the top next to the camshaft?
I doubt it would be vibration you'd hear, more likely the belt rubbing on something (especially if it's a buzzing sound)
If the belt guide wasn't put back on it can cause the belt to run off the edge of the cam pulleys and rub on the timing case(s)
Regarding the tension being out between the exhaust cam gear and the water pump pulley sometimes the belts do seem a little bit loose with no explanation, as long as it's not loose enough to be slipping teeth it shouldn't be an issue generally

i can see the problem, the buzzing is the belt vibrating left to right between 2200and 2700 after then it stops, when it happens the pulley moves back 1mm or so
yep, mine is doing that, tensioner stuffed. Try pressing firmly on the belt between the cam gears and see if the tension wheel moves back, ie. the tensioner rod pushes back into the tensioner. ordered a new one but the got the wrong thing
i think i'll replace the tensioner before the belt and see how i go
Out of curiosity, did changing the tensioner fix it ?
