Default newly converted 1JZ cranking problems

    hey everyone,

just finished converting my auto JZA70 to a manual w/ single turbo.

For some reason unknown, when i go to crank the engine, the starter motor clicks on and off, the lights flash on and off on the dash, but the motor rotates a TINY bit each time. If i hold the key to the start position it does this repeatedly maybe 5 times a second or so. Also, from inside the cabin there is a clunking audible with each click. I havent driven nor started the car in 4 months or so. I cant figure out the problem, any help would be much appreciated as i cant be fucked getting ripped off by a mechanic again.

btw iv disconnected the fuel pump (does this have any bearing?)

    thanks ppl

    Battery fully charged?
Neutral start switch from the old auto sorted?
Clutch working properly? (ie; disengaging when the clutch is depressed)

    vehicle was being jumped started.

the clutch plate seems to be dsconnecting from the flywheel when in all the way, but the car is in neutral any way

the wiring seems ok honestly. . . but i didnt get under the car to check - i was just so frustrated having put so much effort into the car to run into such a silly problem at the very end of the conversion

It's always the little things that bring you unstuck

Try attaching a jumper lead from the engine block/head to the negative terminal of the battery.

Well if you want to fix it properly.

Check battery charge(even put on batt charger overnight)

    Still no good..

Check as much wiring as you can get to with a multimeter.

    Still no good...

Remove starter motor, get battery jumpy cables put earth to starter body and positive to battery. Touch and hold onto the starter. See if it moves forward and rotates.(dont leave on for to long)

You should have a path to go after that.

When you are trying to jump start the car is the old battery still connected .. How good is the old battery does it crank at all ? if the old battery is cactus you are trying to charge up the battery & crank over the car at the same time if you still have it connected up when jump starting ... What are the jumper leads like, ie thickness of the leads, you need to pull back the covers on the clamps & actually check out the thicknes of the wires a lot are just really shitty skinny jobs & wont start shit .. as the guys have said check the motor earths etc .. How easy does the motor turn over by hand ? Is the starter motor actually getting hot ? ... Not easy to do but sometimes it try to run power straight to the starter motor & the other earth jumper lead straight to the motor, cuts out any bad connections down the line, ( not required very often though ) ... A few things to check ..
