    Default GZE into RA60...

I'm thinking about doing an SW20 conversion into my MR2, so the option is left...what to do with my GZE? A friend has an RA60 in desperate need of re-powering, so put 2 and 2 together and you have a GZE RA60. Apart from this, what are the logistics? Is it possible to bolt the GZE up to the (W57) gearbox with an adaptor ring, how hard will the engine be to mount...etc.

    Cheers, RM.

The AE71/86 crossmember *might* fit the celica. Aside from that, you'll need AE71/86 engine mounts, EFI fuel pump, possibly a surge tank, but toyota tanks of that era were all behind the rear seat iirc. If you're unlucky you'll need bigger fuel lines. AFIK there's a bellhousing to bolt a W to an A, but I dont think there's an adaptor ring. Various GE/GZE flywheels might need to be compared to find one appropriate.
Your diff will last if it's in ok condition(no lash) and you load it up gently.

I'd find a wrecked ae71, and do some basic measurements. The crossmember might be suitable for an A as std.
Other things to keep in mind are : Inlet manifold(throttle position), clutch, clutch pedal, spigot bearing, exhaust manifold, tailshaft, and obviously wiring.
    Have fun

rare as all hell but maybe try and get an aa60 cross member from Japan yes thats right there was an a60 series celica with a 4age in it.

personally i think you'd be better putting a 1ggze or 1ggte in as a its been done plenty of times, (i know you may want to be unique) and two a 1.6L engine albeit supercharged is still not gonna be hugely quick in an RA60
    If in doubt power out

I guess it depends on what you're after.
A good gze will be pretty perky, manage nearly the same rwkw as your supra, have a low impact on weight, and get pretty respectable economy when you're cruising.

um my rwkw is low cos the car was pulled off the dyno at 4500rpm. It will be about 130+rwkw once tuned. Not to mention torque which unless turboed and a decent amount of boost a 4a will never match.

You'd be caning the fuck out of a 4agze to get moderate performance in something like a ra60.
    If in doubt power out

You'd be surprised. I'd put money on an RA60 with a 4A weighing lighter than some of the later model (i.e. AE93 Seca's) people put them into. That said, I'd still be advocating a bigger engine.

yeah thats true, if a supra weighs in at between 1250-1390kg, the celica would be a little lighter... and as far as i know a seca weighs roughly 1200-1300kg...

    it could be interesting...

but if you can find some AA63 mounts or can make some up and have an engine just sitting there.... why not give it a bash?

My rego papers say 1020kg for the AW11. This might be the NA weight, so I'd magine that the GZE would be another 100kg. Either way, I'm happy with its performance in the MR2, so I'd be just as happy with it worked harder in a rwd rally car...

Also, it helps to have a 1600cc for rallying...

I'm amazed the aw11 weighs in at that much.
I always thought they'd be more like exa weight (~950 dry)

yeah, that's about the dry weight of the NA I think. GZE is another 100kg or so because of the targa roof and the heavier box/suspention.

I can't see it being a worthwhile conversion to be honest, unless you happen to get lucky and find an AA6x crossmember and a 4A -> W5x bellhousing for cheap. Since that's never going to happen my prediction is it will cost more than a 1G conversion and be nowhere near as good.

I think the most sensible thing would be is to sell the GZE to me.. not put it in Ians RA60 for the heck of it..
