Default Turbo pistons for 3SGE Beams?

    Hi ya all,

I tried to search info about any aftermarket low comp pistons to Blacktop beams engine, but didnt find anything. Is there an bolt on piston or does ST205 piston+rod combo fit even close?

    Thanks.

205 stuff should be fine as the bottom end is near identical, i suppose the only thing that may cause grief is the valve reliefs but that should be checked when you do a test fit with playdough or similar to check piston to valve clearance.

Yeah as Linden says 205 stuff will be fine BEAMs are still non interference right so valve clearance should be fine but best to check.

Why low comp though? High comp turbo is the way to go. Low comp turbo is dark ages stuff these days and only for mega high boost drag cars and dyno queens....even the latst drag cars are staying high comp, admitedly mostly on methanol but still shows that high comp is the way to go.

A high comp BEAMs will take 18psi easy for a super responsive 250+rwkw.

What's the application? Judging by your avatar i'm guessing rally sprint or circuit?

Here is a related thread (re: valve to piston clearance with a broken belt):
    http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...305#post429305

Based on that thread, it sure seems like they might be interference.

A lot of the later model Toyota engines are interference, even some of those that run belts.
    VVT-i 3UZ-FE I have confirmed firsthand.

ah interesting, i wasn't 100%, file that bit of info away.

For mine i would still leave it internally stock as it would produce the goods safely for most applications.

No response on what it's for though and may already have gone bang hence a rebuild? in which case looking at some lower comp forgies wouldn't hurt. I still wouldn't go below 9:1 no matter what the hp goal and would keep at around 10:1 if possible.

I tottaly agree with Justen on this, I think 10:1 with boost is ideal

Low comp as 7.0:1 is dark ages for sure. I was planning some 9 to 10:1 cr as low comp

Why i asked was i wanted to use ST205 rods and pistons or even rods and aftermarket pistons. I personally wouldnt trust even 10psi to BEAMS stock rods...

Valve clearance, no problem but valve angles and positions + actual CR with that setup is what i wonder.

And not race engine, for a future daily

apparently the beams engines have a smaller combustion chamber than the earlier gens.

34cc for beams and 50+ for the earlier gens.

this is only heresay as i havn't checked it for myself but you may want to confirm first.

    cheers

I'm afraid i can't shed much light on valve angles etc off the top of my head but i reckon the rods should be fine for a daily at any boost level you care to run.

My reasoning, from what i can recall they didn't look any weaker than other 3S rods and given Toyota engineered them to take big revs and it's revs that kills rods i would have thought they are plenty strong enough?

Still if the engine is open already then pistons/rods if you have the dosh i guess.

can make pistons in 8.7 to 1 and 8.5 to 1 for turbo application and the combustion chambers are 33cc and can use the eagle rods as they would be beefier than the beams rods

Special Piston Services Pty Ltd in Victoria could probably help you out with some made to suit pistons as well.

I guess you'll have to get up early in Finland to call them...............

Not much help if they dont have modell ready for custom piston to use with 3S-GTE rod.

you can use the std beams rod but i would try the st205 rods or a after market rod that can handle lots of boost
