    Default auto transmission help

    how's it going everyone.

gonna do the best to describe whats happened to my brothers pulsar.

its a 91 pulsar thats automatic, recently it had been leaking a bit of auto trans fluid out of one of (what i assume is) one the cooler lines, oil line that feeds up into the side of the radiator.

well i replaced the line last night, with a bit of hose, but during the time he's driven it the hose has split, and he's lost all/most of his fluid. the car is at his house at the moment and he say's when he puts it in gear and touches the accelerator the car just rev's, doesn't even move

is it fair to say the gear box has maybe overheated and seized some where, or will it just not engage due to lack of fluid. is the gear box stuffed?

that's kind of the best info i can give at the moment as the car is in sydney and i'm in new castle
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

Auto's rely 110% on fluids. There are not like a manual where they will still turn with no oil in them (albeit not for very long!). If there isn't enough fluid in there to build up line pressures, they won't move at all. Other than that, I can't offer any more advice as to what possible damage may have occured.

the good news is, if its shagged, its a holden box, and they are cheap as chips

I know that the engine in the N13 pulsar is a Family 11 (camira) engine but I was not so sure about the boxes. I am fairly sure that the manual trans is Nissan but as to the auto does any body know for sure?

as the others have said, unless you start stripping the auto down, the only other way to test the box is to fix the line, throw some fluid in it, and see how it goes. you might get lucky, you probably wont though
