    Default 18rgeu + TURBO

ok all i have been in hiding for a little bit and doing some reflection on my ra23, my ra23 houses a 18rgeu under the bonnet with a haltec e6x ecu. now a little bit back i was in the market to sell the 18rgeu and get a 1ggte for the beast but no one wanted to pay the worth of the motor so, i have driven it around some. in my relection time i have managed to come across a turbo off a 1jzgte, a customer at work has a supra with a 1jz in it and took the turbos off it and put some garrets on it. so i have scored one of the turbo and am looking to put it on the the 18rg to run some small boost until i do some upgrades to the motor and a rebuild. i am looking for a little guide on what to do to hook the turbo up, i have sorced a manifold and a front mount and the turbo. just need to hook it up.

i personally wouldnt start with a 1j turbo as there isnt much to upgrade to that will bolt on, and the fact that its designed for a 1.25lt.

try a t25g off an sr20 as it will give good response and moderate power with alot of upgrade turbos available also.

as far as hooking everything up, if your more specific i can help you but there are 4 lines that need to be run. an inlet for air, outlet to IC and the mani and dump.

    cheers

1J turbos are internally gated. Why does it matter?

I'm selling a series IV RX7 turbo and a manifold to suit an 18R-G. That's a much better fit for your engine, a single CT12A is way too small.

should probably move this discussion to the 18RGTE reference manual.

that way it can benefit all those who are subscrided to it.

would ya look at that, it's going to bolt staright up and be the easiest of turbo conversions..
I'd be taking him up on his offer..
don't bother with the little 1j turbo, there's a reason they use 2 at a time.. apart from this conversion that Norbie has I'd personally be going with one of the "T" Garret turbo's, T25
    T28 etc
Do the job once mate and do it properly, don't waste money on half the job only to do it again properly later.
    good luck with it.
