Default Disconnect high beam switch / high beam

've got a lo-beam hid kit on my Sprinter/AE86 and bumping my high beams flicks them off, and because the HIDs are hot, i cant turn them back on straight away. Can be concerning at night :S

Would disconnecting the high beam switch be the best option? How would I do it?

re-wire the headlight switch so the low stays on when hi-beam is flicked on?

it's not that high beam needs to be cut, it's just you need power to the HiD regardless of hi/lo setting.

note: this could cause significant current draw on the battery/alternator.

you cant really disconnect the high beam... as they are all done through one loom, and combo switch,

has the problem always happened? b4 you put the HID kit in?

sound's like the combo swicth may be at fault, but if yur unsure, best option is to take it to a sparky,

    Wiring and me aren't friends.

It could have happened pre-hid kit, but I wouldn't have noticed as I had high beams then.

I think it may be the combo switch being faulty as when it happened last night, my hands where no where near the stalk, and when I went to fire the lights back up again the high beam light was on, on the dash. I had to flick the highbeams on and off to reset it and wait for the hids to cool a bit.

I have overcome this problem on my 71 with my hid kit although i have a hi/lo kit. so i wired mine differently. I know exactly what your asking though.
Toyota use an earth signal to switch between hi and lo beams. As soon as the head lights are switched on a common positive is suplied to each of the globes.
All you have to do is wire the common positive wire (Red/Black) from the headlight sockets to each of the positve wires on the hid ballasts and then directly connect the negative wires to chassis frame.
This will in turn bypass the hi/lo function on your combo switch.

though i highly recommend wiring in relays etc. etc.

Here is a diagram that took me ages to find. It shows how to wire up the hi/lo setups.

Hey thanks man, but the attachment in the other thread doesn't work!

I managed to get it to switch from Lo to Hi, but then it stays in Hi until lights switched off and back on again.

Cant be arsed fiddling with it now, it's dark out. But tomorrow i'm going to try putting a diode between hi & lo wires.

EDIT: Just realised i'm posting in the thread you sent me to

Yeah but that PDF doesn't help me figure out the problem... that just shows how it's wired 'normally'. Our lights are common positive with negative switch.

    Oops wrong thread.

take the warning light out of the dash, everything should work fine then, you wont be able to get the warning light to work without convential globes
