actually the VN airbox flows fine in an NA setup.
with forced induction though forget it, its hopeless. it caused a 6psi pressure drop for me - and thats with a K&N filter too!

    with any filter,

the bigger the filter area the better, K&n make some good pods, reverse pods are good aswell, called extreme tops.... ( )

    heres a good sized one...

i've hear from various sorces that pods like the k&N let alot of dirt in by lack of filteration.

in my ae82 the air box and the battery should be swaped to allow for a cold air intake. to cobat this im planing making a "ali" air box being fed by a "cosworth vent" directly above it.
in side the air box i was concidering a unifilter cause i read on a bmw forum that they stop most particals and seem to flow well to. opinions are encoraged.

ps. the box design was a upside down trapesium prism with an open top.

K&N lets oil in... minute amounts of airfilter oil. Might be bad for hotwire AFM? But otherwise it shouldn't do any harm. I've got a k&n pod atm and it's alright, even if it needs a clean

The foam filters are bad! They are the ones that ruin engines.

and bad for a turbo spinning at 80K rpm (or at least, I can't imagine it being good)

I wacked a $35 pod from supercheap into my GT4 the other day for something to do. Hard to tell, but I think performance has improved in the slightest. Can also hear induction noise about 3500rpm upward. Not a bad, cheap mod, considering the stock panel air filter was, as I was told by many, very restrictive. Now Im looking to hookup some CAI.

Well I just installed my pod tonight, took it for two small runs. First time was AFM at stock and second time I made it run slightly richer because more air needs more fuel. I like to believe that I do feel a bit of a difference as it's picking up. Didn't really hear much of the noise as I have other rattles and things...

I didn't make a CAI or duct yet because it's just the 5ME, gonna wait till my conversion. Also I have a straight through exhaust so it's in and out

I knew my mind was playing tricks on me

I suspose the only real way to be 100% sure would be to shove it on a dyno but that's a lot of effort and not about to happen. For now just let me enjoy thinking I go faster

I run a K&N and it traps a whole lotta dirt?

There was a good comparison between different brands someplace, but I just cannot find it.

    short guide.
paper best at filtering. paper takes a while to get too dirty, but less flow per area.
oiled cotton/foam good for trapping dirt to start, but get clogged up quickly and become worse than paper.
foam can possibly break up after time, as foam can degrade in presence of petrol/oil etc.... but in reality this could be (many) years.

paper is cheapest and simplest and least maintanence, but needs larger area.

oiled are expensive and need to be cleaned and re-oiled regularly.
