Question Adding an Immobiliser to Aristo stock Security System...

I've wasted all day trying to understand exactly what is needed in my situation... I need an immobiliser for my insurance obviously and all I know about the Aristo stock system is the following: I have to press the button on the key to make it open the doors, twice if i wish to unlock the rears, and I can also use the key in the door. The key can also be used to lock the boot and fuel caps.

I obviously need to get another key cut somewhere too, as I only have one.

I'd also like a comprehensive alarm system, and a few custom bits here and there that only I know about.

I don't trust anybody to do the work for me (esp with no passwd EBC yet) but I gather most of the better solutions out there do not release wiring information etc

Keyfobs piss me off, as I have enough keys to qualify as head janitor as it is. I'd like to be able to use the stock key to access the car and immobiliser if this is possible (and secure)

So, I'm after opinions: should/can I rip out the stock system and replace it entirely with another alarm/immobiliser? Or should I complement the stock (working!) system with an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser system?

I'd think about taking the car to an individual to have this done if they were well vouched for, and I could watch what they are doing...

That said, I'm currently sleeping with the ignitor under my pillow, so, yeah, I'm keen for a solution!

Some of the info I've gathered from around toymods has suggested reading the following material (which I have done)

    http://www.strathfield.com/
    http://www.dynamco.com.au/
    http://www.mongoose.com.au/car-secur...roduct_id=M60B
    http://www.brant.com.au/

Still looking. At this stage I probably need a better understanding of what I currently have in the stock car...

Lance: contact Mark (email address is on 2nd page of newsletter) as he had a guy in the Valley cut spare key(s?) for his Soarer.

Ok I got the keys cut and they work... ie they start the car

Apparently there is no transponder in my key, just the button for remote central locking. Still very confused on the best way to upgrade my security (other than currently bolting the car to the ground in the shed and disabling it...)

    Hi mate,

    You have two options here.

ONE: Get a 'upgrade alarm system' these are made by Dynamco 'P485'. But other companies may do them as well, dynamco is the only system i install if i have a choice!
These do come with wiring diagrams, but you have to know what your doing to test the stock wiring. I can understand you not trusting anyone, i might be able to help you out with wiring.

TWO: The other way is to fit a complete new system. This way is a lot more complex and you would HAVE to have a 'key fob'. The key fob is what arms and disarms the alarm as well as doing the central locking if you chose it to be installed to do so (recommend for alarms). Now depending on your budget you can get the higher end system which also incorporates a 'transponder' into the remote so you don't have the problem of the immobilizer self arming then you having to fiddle around pressing the remote buttons again!

    Pros & Cons.

The first system is by far the best and easiest to use. Only thing is that you will have to get some genuine Toyota keys with a programmable remote in the head.

The second system will be better if someone say got your key but not your remote... but saying that pretty much everyone these days keeps both keys and remotes together!
Cons... bitch to install fully. Having to have a FOB (not what customer wanted).

There are lots of other ways out there. In fact you don't even need to go to the extent of getting an alarm, you can just get an immobilizer if you just want piece of mind!
