I'll be watching this with great interest. I can think of at least 3 MA61s that will be testing the structural strength of the MA61 chassis and the limits of F series diffs very shortly

Actually traction isn't too bad once the car is rolling along, and I expect it will be much better once I install the rear camber kit and invest in some real tyres. This setup won't really come on song until the car is moving at speed anyway.

I had a go at properly mounting the manifold and turbo today. It turns out my cheapie manifold wasn't very well thought out - for starters three of the runners foul the lower manifold studs so I'll have to find some shorter ones, and even then it will be a struggle to get nuts on them.

Worse than that though, the turbo is positioned such that the oil drain is pointing directly at the collector and there's no room to get a hose in between the pipes. At the moment the drain hose is pointing forward to go around the runners and it has a big kink in it so I don't think it will flow at all. Not good!

One last potential problem is the height of the turbo, it clears the bonnet but I don't know if the intercooler piping will after I've put a 90 degree bend on the outlet. I may have to cut the housing and weld an alloy bend on it, which isn't so bad but I'd prefer to have the turbo mounted lower.

At this point I'm wondering if I should persist with what I have or try one of the many other eBay manifold designs out there? It's a bit of a pain but at least they're cheap.

Sounds like you ended up with the exact same manifold as me - I ran into the exact same problems (although I only had trouble with one of the lower studs).

I was able to get a 90 degree fitting in there and run a braided hose off that for the oil (with an extra heat shielding sheath over it). not a great solution, as it's still passing oil directly over the hottest part of the manifold, but I didn't have other options.

Yeah I considered that but I thought it was essential to have the oil drain vertical, or as close to vertical as possible?

what diff is about to be abused by this monster? If your running a true trac in the stocko, you must be testing its limits now.

I believe norbie still has the f-series tru-trac in there, which confirms my love for that centre. Methinks the latest upgrade could spell the death of it... there has been talk of an a-series diff, which would be awesome

you would think a GZ20/MA70 G series rear end would be ample for a 2JZ and GT35R?!

Ive yet to see anyone with an MA61 break the F series crown or pinion. Usually the centres are what die

Yes I've still got an F series, RA65 gears with a TrueTrac centre. It's OK for now but I don't rate its chances of surviving long with 500+ rwhp. If I upgrade I'll probably go with a JZA80 A series centre, simply because they come with a 3.2:1 ratio which suits the V160 better. A B series would be better again but I was looking at one on the weekend and they're absolutely enormous, I'd never be able to fit it without major surgery.
