    VR sensors FTW!

    suggestions?
-work out if any trace from the sensor connects to ground (mounting block on sensor), if so then don't earth it at the other end.
-if three wires, two are signal, 3rd is shield
-borrow Wilbo's 'scope, connect to sensor outputs, crank engine and look at shape, if rising before crossing zero the wire you're watching is the signal trace, if falling before crossing you have found the earth return.

Depends where you put it. Mine is mounted in one of the strongest parts of the car so IMO it's quite safe there. If you mounted it at the front of the engine bay it would be a different story.

Hey Norbie, just wondering if you thought about a safer spot to mount the surge tank?

Have you sorted out the polarity of the pickups? I have it in some notes somewhere :|... just kinda need to find them.

The spot I have the surge tank now is the safest place I can think of without putting it in the boot, which obviously presents other problems.

As for the CAS I've come to the conclusion that the white wire is the ground, maybe. I'll go with that and see what happens.

White - sheild (E1 on diagnostic connector, from memory is ground also)

Is the above for the CAS? Those colours don't match anything I have.

Thanks for the info, I hooked up the sensors yesterday and it appears they're working! I cranked it over and the Haltech registered 120-150 RPM. It even spluttered and backfired a bit which suggests I have fuel and spark. Woohoo, the first sign of life!

Still lots of assembly etc to do before I can have a go at actually starting it. I recently found out my ECU was mapped for 1000cc injectors before I bought it (I only have 720's) so I'm going to have to fudge something before it will start. I'm thinking if I bump the fuel pressure up to 60psi (from 40) it might be enough to compensate? Note this is just a temporary thing to get it to the dyno, then I'll drop it back to 40.

    brave thing to do?

ECU should have a fuel trim feature? or is the thing locked (for numerous irritating reasons)?

Yeah it has a trim feature, not sure how far it can trim though. I don't see how this is any different to fiddling with the fuel pressure though?

Note this is only for a single highway trip, it won't be getting on boost at all, and I have a wideband hooked up to keep an eye on things. Methinks the risk is pretty low.

just use the trim feature. Should be able to change easy as and if you have a wideband hooked up no probs. No point dropping the fuel pressure I reckon. Just leave it at 3 bar as usual and tune from there.
