righto well what colours do you have there. Normally ive found that brown is BATT or ACC, not sure which other colours there are, get a test light should make things much easier

when i installed the head unit in the celica i just ran new power cabling as the cable in there originally was teeny and probably would have melted within a few seconds of powering up. i traced the ignition/acc cable off the loom from the old tape deck and used that.

also, fwiw, i'd probably solder any joints rather than twisting, its not that hard to do, but thats just my preference. i guess i just like knowing that things wont start falling apart after time.

    Jeez.

At least crimp the wires together. It'll only cost you about $5 in parts.

yes, the crimp things are the little blue tube things that you squish with pliers (or a crimper)
they'll give you a much better contact than just twisting the wires together and they're easy to use/install.
use one with a little ring for the ground wire and stick it behind a bolt that is clean (no paint/grease. ie. bare metal) somewhere on the chassis. if you want to make sure the ground point is good, get a multimeter and measure the resistance between the negative battery lead and your selected ground point. if its close to, or zero ohms resistance, its fine. if its showing a fair bit of resistance, find another point and try again.

If you screw it up it'll cost you more than doing it right the first time.

If you blow the amplifier in the unit and it comes to me. I'll be sure to charge you for it.
No warrantee for you! Come back.. 1 YEAR!

For the ground connection crimp one of the round ones in and stick it under a bolt thats already under the dash, near where you are installing the head unit.

Get yourself a test lamp. Find out what wire has constant +12V and what wire switches +12V on when you turn on the key, this is called the accessory line.

Once you get those 3 connected you will see the unit turn on.. But no sound as there are no speakers installed yet.

Orrrrr... You can take it to some one to install..

Oooooooorrrrrrr 2. See if you can find one of those conversion looms that will make it a plug and play operation. Shouldnt cost more than $30 and thats a damn sight less than you'll get charged if you blow it up or destroy your cars wiring system.

This shit really gets me pissed off sometimes.

Listen I would like to apologise to everyone, that was my cousin posting to make me look like a cockhead, he had my pass, anyways i sorted him out, 2 days ago actually, and he didnt have a batt wire in the harness, i just ran a new one from the ignition harness with a fuse, and dont worry i soldered and heatshrinked everything, grounded it to the dash.
the last few posts it appears he was being a cockhead, cos by then it was fixed. new speaker wire everywhere, put speakers in.

buy a test light for $4.00 and just work it out. its really not that hard if you have experience like yourself.

There may not be a constant power source in the original stereo plug loom if the radio was an analog. If this is the case just get constant 12v from another source (key barrel, interior doom light etc)

I so need a test light, they rock even if you do have a Fluke multimeter.

thats what i did, i tested every wire in the stereo plug harness and there was no constant, only the 12v acc wire, so i took a constant 12v from the batt feed to the ignition switch, with fuse of course.
