Default $250 vented brake upgrade for KE30/35/55 also celica/corona

Many thanks to ChuckLandwehr and ddeane for this little brake upgrade

Im doing this on my KE35. Note these will NOT fit under 13" rims, minimum is 14" rims.

    cost brakedown(lol)

XT130 Struts, and XT130 steering knuckles and MX62 calipers and RA60 discs $60 from pick-a-part (pretend they are all from 1 car when you pay for them and make sure the car you say its off is the most unliked car in the universe - my tag line is "they are from a early 80's corona, you know, the ugly one" *then open up empty wallet and say "i only have 60 bucks" then watch as everyone gets annoyed but succumb to your pathetic plight)
    Pajero Master Cylinder $90
    Brake Pads $60
Beer to pay fitter to do some welding $40

    Total Cost $250

Here are the bits and pieces all laid out on the ground, XT130 shocks, KE35 strut tops and top spring seat will be used but not pictured
    See pic: ke35brakeup01.jpg

Here i had the bottom KE35 sping seat welded onto the XT130 strut. If the brake upgrade is for a RA23/28/40 or corona you dont need to do this.
    See pic: ke35brakeup02.jpg

test fitting the RA60 disc with the XT130 hub and strut, the reason i use RA60 disc instead of MX62 disc is that RA60 is 258mm while MX62 is 248mm
    See pic: ke35brakeup03.jpg

found you need to cut a portion of the stone guard off to fit the caliper, no big deal

Caliper on, notice the gap you need to fill with some washers or steel plate. I use the MX62 caliper as it has the same 90mm bolt spacing as the XT130 strut. The RA60 caliper does not have the same bolt spacing

I used washers as the amount you space the bottom bolt is slightly larger than the amount u space the top bolt, using different thickness washers will solve this. Also you can use the MX62 caliper bolts BUT they dont screw in all the way, better to get bolts that are approx 4-5mm longer
    See pic: ke35brakeup05.jpg

this is a pic of the XT130 strut, notice there is thread, you have to drill this thread out as the MX62 caliper also has thread which you will be using
    See pic: ke35brakeup06.jpg

notice thread on caliper, you keep this thread

    all bolted together
    See pic: ke35brakeup08.jpg

here is the pad just for reference sake, you can get EBC and FERODO race compounds with this pad easily, ohh and also bendix......... BAHAHAHAHAAHAAHA bendix.... sif u would.
    See pic: ke35brakeup09.jpg

15/16th's pajero master clyinder to directly bolt onto KE30/35 brake booster, i think its the NG pajero, either way the PBR part number is shown there and they are $90 new, which is worth it. Check out this thread for all the information you need on this particular master cyliner http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...ghlight=pajero

    See pic: ke35brakeup10.jpg

although as you can see i did spend extra money:

    new RA60 discs ($200)
i also replaced the hub bearings ($60)
    rebuilt the calipers ($40)
KE30 LCA ball joints ($cant remember)
    KE30 LCA bushes ($cant remember)
KE30 outer tie rod ends ($cant remember)

so there you go all of this will bolt into KE30/35/55 with KE30 spring, XT130 shock, KE30 upper spring hat and KE30 strut tops.

if you want to bolt it into a RA23/28/40 and XT130 and RT132 you keep your celica/corona springs and shocks and steering knuckles.

any other questions let me know and ill answer them

Bisically a the hilux/pug/corona swap for a ll the celica boys... just with a lot less trouble!!!

    Good effort Mate!

I didn't notice the size of the RA60 rotor anywhere in there, so for info, the size of RA60 rotors in the DBA catalogue is 258x20mm.

full pad contact, in the pic of the pad on the caliper i should have put the pad closer to the hub as u can see the tab on the side of the pad slot into the brackety/platey things in the caliper

here is a pic with them on the car

    Well done mate- +rep!

Get Chuck and ddeane to post in here also so they can get rep too!

Looks like the easiest way to get vented rotors on the end of a *T13* strut- pisses all over making a spacer for the RT142 caliper, which is what I was going to do!
Nikita the RA23 is almost finished .

Top stuff Rob! Really looks the business. Steve Millar, has just done the same brake conversion on his PHAT Blue TA22, with coilovers. The 22 is only 2TG power, but he is very, very impressed with the braking ability. From memory, I think Steve is running a ST185/205 master cylinder.

Just a quick note, the caliper mount points which you have pictured, can also be machined flat and parallel, if you have access to a milling machine. Then the spacers become a uniform 7mm, which you can easily cut from a piece of plate steel. No mill here, so out with the angle grinder, with a 60 grit flap disc, and a pair of verniers. Ten minutes work all done.

    cheers Chuck.

Main difference, is the XT130 caliper requires a spacer plate, to enable the caliper to fit over the disc.

ddeane, will telll you there is not a great deal of difference in braking force.

    cheers Chuck.
