    Default 1JZ Emissions Question

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this..

My Cressida was engineered in October 2006 for the 1JZ-GTE engine in standard specifications.

Since the engineer certificate, the following changes have been made:
    - Twin turbos and manifold have been replaced with single turbo and different manifold.
    - Standard intercooler has been replaced with aftermarket intercooler. Intercooler is secured.
    - Battery has been relocated from engine bay into the boot of the vehicle.

Car is still running standard engine management system, standard injectors, etc.

Does anyone know what the emission levels will be like after the single turbo changeover? The turbo is a Garrett GT35R. like I mentioned before, the engine management is still standard.

    Main concerns:
Does the car need engineering for the big single?
If so, what does it need done? Emissions test only?

emissions are regulated by the engine management system, if that's still there, then there's no reason to argue that levels have changed.

With the big single and FMIC you can get the engine producing a power a lot quicker but the whole setup is still controlled by the factory ECU.

    I would call an engineer.

My initial impression would be that it will need definitely need engineering and possibly emissions testing. I know my supra (GT35r turbo) would have needed emissions testing and engineering regardless of what computer I ended up using.

note: whether you require an emissions test depends a lot on how lenient your engineer is.. you will get 5 different opinions from 5 different engineers (which is VERY annoying)

Some part of your exhaust has changed, so at the very least you will need a noise test done.

I have spoken to one engineer, and he said that it will need both emissions and noise test done.

Car is still in the process of having the single turbo conversion done. For now, it will continue to use factory ECU.

I have access to an engine and emissions analyser which will hopefully help me out

imho, if you think you can pass an emissions test I'd get it done. It's free in NSW, and it will make your engineer's certificate stand up to scrutiny by overzealous hwy patrols/RTA inspectors

Yep, that's exactly why I want it done. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

My dad is a mechanic and has an engine analyser, so I can easily check the emission levels beforehand

    Better than my planned method.
Drive to RTA, fail test and get readout. Do mods to fix it, get a re-test

I've a GT3076 on my 1JZ did'nt make a spot of difference to my emissions for the Uk test, in stock ecu/injector trim in fact it passed without its cat. So long as the lambda probe is still there it'll be fine.
