issue with fuel consumption/economy

My st184 only gets around 450km to a full tank, thinking of getting a new fuel/air sensor will this help..................as i drive to prestons from wollongong everynight for work, fuel bill is more than it should be,.,.,.,.,.,. would like to rectify this prob so i can spend it on other areas of the car such as making a bodykit and motor conversion......... thanks

put a multimeter on the O2 sensor and see what voltage it is getting when you are cruising
it should either be around 0.5, or should bounce back between say, 0.3 and 0.7 every few seconds...
