simple answer is no boost until you get it retuned.
if there is no map to compensate for boost, you may have a turbo but you wont have ring lands long.

    What he said ^^^

Do you understand how the Haltech works? It's a MAP (manifold air pressure) based system not airflow metered so if you increase the airflow or run a MAP that's beyond what the ECU has been programmed for your airflow won't be matched to your fuel requirements and boom (same for timing actually).

Put turbo on and limp very gently to dyno for tune

maybe even remove the BoV so the turbo can't pressurise the inlet manifold and dont rev the engine hard or high or you'll overspeed the turbo and kill it quicksmart.

just wire the wastegate open until you can get it tuned.

yeah i know how the map works i though u could get to like 2 pound with out the retune, with the commy v6 i was told u can put a turbo on it and it will get 8 pound then u need a after market ecu.

i seriously doubt a commy motor would last, maybe for a week or 2 but not for long.
for the price of a tune why would you risk an engine, its pointless.
bolt it up when you have the cash for a tune and $200 extra incase of unforseen probs, take it to your tuner of choice and drive home with as much power as the engine will give.
    cheers

ps rethink the copper headgasket they lick balls, leave the motor as is and bolt the bits up there is nothing like a responsive high comp/low boost setup for a daily.

Standard HG is no limit at all. I ran 22psi day in day out on my 18RGT and the only issue that arose was the stock head bolts would eventually stretch....i went thru quite a few sets and was about to move to a custom ARP set of head studs but went 3SGTE instead and sold the motor to a guy in the UK.

As long as your tune is good and you avoid det then the stock HG is fine.

Why 15 psi? Means nothing by itself

Better question to ask is what is needed to achieve a certain hp level (reliably) and what is needed to suit a certain type of use.

Run something smallish. T25 or T28. Can get these real cheap. Limit boost to 8-10psi. You'll get away with bolts ons no probs.....will need a FMIC but an Ebay bar and plate around 400x300x75 will fit and do the job. Car will have great punch for street use and be mucho fun.

Get that retune asap once the turbo is on though. Probably find your stock injectors will greatly limit hp so try and source some 3TGT or 7MGTE ones for a mild upgrade.
