i think u will find they are running 40's stu.

205/40 17 is within 3/5 of stuff all of the std size, tho the load rating is way to low

215/40 is acceptable, tho the load rating is 1 to low.

I don't know if there are any 17's, in the right size, that have the right load rating for our cars.

    http://www.turbocelica.com/AutoKB/TireSizes.htm

that site gives u tire sizes that suit our car

    Cheers

Yep that's right... I'm running 215/40-17s... the max load rating I could get was 87 when factory is 88.
If you bump up to 18's you can get tyres with higher load ratings.

Although I have never had a problem running 87 load rated tyres on my car it does worry me that the old insurance company may give me grief if I ever have an accident.

    BTW load rating 88 = 560kg per corner... 87 = 545

im gonig a 17 x 8 rim - can fit a 235 on them with the right load rating in goodyear or dunlops that i know of - only drama is the cost at over 320 dolars a tyre

hence why i need to sell my rims desperately ..

cant get the car engineered with the current ones - engineer wont sign off till it gets an upgrade in rim

How big was the standard size tyre? I understand you can get a 235 width tyre on the rim, but how close will the profile be to the factory size?

Why does the engineer require an upgrade in rim!?

standard rim is 15x6.5 with a 215/50/15R tire hanging off it.
I had 205/55/15R tires and they were fine.

I have 17x8 rims with 215/40/17R tires on them, with a load rating of 83V which is what they came with. I would personally go upto 235/45/17R (commodore size) as they have the larger rating. Although your speedo will be 7.9% out.

it would also depend on the offset of the rim and whether it is going to clear the struts, most people have to use a lower profile tyre to stay under the the spring seats.

what offset are the rims? that would probably give you a better idea on what size to go.

Looking at the 235 options available, there is SFA which fits your requirements that comes close to the factory diameter at all...damn Toyota and their load ratings being so high.

Im running 205-45-R17 Falkens which have the correct load rating, marginally to large, but my speed still seems to read too slow for some reason...

ATM im having to run spacers on the current rims to clear the calipers ..

rear ones have less than a mm clearance from rim edge - basically he wonmt say ok to them for high speed stuff which i plan to use the car for this year - hence going to a 17

Im also looking to see if i can get them wider than standard offset - to give a wider footing - hence possible engineering bits ( for the guard filling in the back + the fronts look very very nice spaced out an extra 8mm each side than standard atm )

235's were available in goodyear eagles (gs -d3) , and dunlop sp3000's ( same as commodore /falcon tyres ) in the right load rating , and such .. it will be either one of these that i will be going for but wasnt sure on ther profile issues as 7 % inaccuracy is gunna be BAD unless the speedo gets recalibrated to suit .. the 40's are alot less thasn this i believe - around the 2 - 3 % if that ?

might just have to bite the bullet and get the " dearer " ones but clints right

    91 load rating for st205

    88 i think for the st185

makes it bloody hard to get tyres for Gt4's * grump *

    Hi All,

    I'm running 235/40/17 on 17 x 8 rims with my ST185.

Got a good deal on NEXEN's 3000 I think they have performed well on the street for me and quite well on the occasional track lap(s) on my mates R33.

    Regards,

235/40 are 4% out on the speedo, which is approx 24mm larger diameter than std.

so u will need an engineer to approve them (which u will be doing anyways, so shouldn't be a problem) tho they might track into ruts a lot worse, and wet weather will probably also suffer.

how do u calculate this speedo accuracy thing.
    i've got 225/45s on a 17x7" wheel.
could someone tell me how far out my reading might be?
