Default Hilux 22R to 22RE Conversion Help needed

I have recently rebuilt a 22RE out of an RT142 Corona basically got rid of the carby 22R and upgraded to EFI. I had this shit hot idea that the auto in the Rona would fit my 93 xtra cab auto if I changed the bellhousings.

Basically thought the rona transmission would be a better ratio for drivability with the 22RE. Only problem was the bellhousing of the hilux wouldnt come out unless I took the bolts around the shaft off. When It came time to put it back together. I noticed a small bearing that must have fallen out. Shi!!# Tried putting it back in where I thought it went. No go the shaft was seized. Took it back out again...sweet it was free. Bolted the gearbox up again for the 6th damn time and then no fwd or reverse gears!!!

Im tired of trying to work it out. Ive spent 3 weeks of my leave on this conversion and am almost ready to commit.

So heres the problem. Im hoping someone has another crappy hilux 4spd auto lying around to replace my perfectly good working auto that I somehow managed to destroy, or if anyone can reccommend a suitable bolt on replacement auto with ratios similar to the Corona box to improve driveability.

Any help would be great, Ive blown my budget, lost my nerve and nearly copped a divorce over this one.

I took the auto out yesterday AGAIN. I think its a 57AU. Not sure if their the same.

I opted the 22RE because I already had a 22R motor in it and what I initially thought to be a few simple mods would be an easy conversion.

I wasnt after great HP just wanted a few better fuel economy then 19lt/100k's which my last motor was doing and also a few more kw with the injection. Basically just had to swap the hilux pickup and sump, modify the fuel tank and connect an external EFI fuel pump etc.

The wiring is still ongoing. The auto electrician I used ensure me it was easier to swap the entire corona harness with the hilux one and then modify it. I think he was wrong?? He has spent over10 hours on it and is still going. I thought it would be easier just wiring up the computer etc to the existing harness. I cant wait to get his bill..

is probably a bit late, but you treat the engine and chassis harnesses as two items that inconnect near the ECU (to bring sensor traces out to the dash and triggers from IGN and start power) and engine bay (power feed and control).

The trick is to identify those inconnect points before you hack up the loom(s) - obviously it helps if you have wiring diagrams for both

Yes everyone Ive spoken to about the electrical side seem to think the auto elec has gone around it the hard way. Theres still a bit to be done but cant even get him to show up to do the rest and the other techs are too scared to start where he finished off.

    Can anyone confirm. I think the 2wd 22R RN90 4spd auto is a A43D transmission????

True that. Ive sent the box to a guy who said I somehow destroyed the guts of it, however ended up giving him the Corona box as well, said he may be able to swap parts from that if their ok. Still stinging me $350 for it or the other option was 2nd hand from the wreckers for around $500. Im running out of brass fast! Wife wants to divorce me YAH!

Have you weighed up your options yet

Keep persisting with this until you have no money left
    or
Sell it! and make some of you dosh back, then buy a nice cheap daily until you get yourself back on track.
When on track buy another Lux and do a 1G or even 2JZ if you want to go Xtreme

By this stage the ball and chain should be out of the picture and you will have lots of DOSH

Nah ive reached to point of no return. Im not after a big powerplant and just wanted a tad more power and economy. Main problem is finding the time. I have a six month old daughter and one more on the way not leaving me much time to play with the lux as it is. My only advantage is my father in law has a workshop which obvoiusly helps when its quiet

Power and economy? From a 22RE. I'd like to see that!

    Good luck with it.

I don't hate cars (this week)

    Cheers,

    Hey Mate...

What did you have to do to modify the fuel tank and sender? We've got that bit left but have been trying to find a sender out of a 22re with no luck so far...

yr auto elecky is an idiot
he went about it the wrong way
u should have sen tme your loom and i would return it with 5 wires to connect and it would run
that way your auto elecky would be able to wire it easily
i dont uinderstand y people use every day old school auto elecks for this type of shit
