    Default webber carby

    Hi All,
Just recieved a Redline Webber carburettor conversion kit for my 11/93 hilux 22r. Has anybody done this conversion, if so how did it go and do you have any tips?
    Cheers Mick.

well i just put one on a 18r piece of piss really all u had to do was take out the studs on the intake manifold (where the stocko carb went) and bolt the adapter plate where the studs go then bolt the carby on the adapter plate put the throttle linkages on and put a bit of fuel down the primary butterfly and it should start also try to dodge up the vacuum lines (or block)
    cheers and good luck

    Thanks Mate,
Did you notice much proformance and economy changes? What sort of choke system is on yours and does the choke work allright on the webber?
The choke was the reason for the change on my beast, a total pain in the a!#%.
    Cheers Mick

well my car is off the road getting painted i haven't really driven it but i start it nearly everyday,
to be honest i don't think you need a choke on a weber (mine is a manual choke witch has been tied off) when i start mine (about 7.00 am) i hold the revs on (about 3000rpm) for a bout 20 seconds and it idles perfect and the engine was recently rebuilt so it hasnt even run in

    Hope this helps.

    cheers Luke.

Most Weber have an accelerator pump jet on them.

So to get it started, as long as there is fuel sitting in the bowl you can just give a couple of pumps on the accelerator pedal before you turn it over.

I've never seen the choke cable connected on webers except in factory installations. It just isn't usually required.

If your car can idle from cold start with no choke, the idle jet is set far too rich.

The idle valve should be adjusted when hot, which will not be enough to let it idle when cold... you then need to get that choke operating correctly.

Why do these "new" Weber carb kits have a cable operated choke anyway?
I would have thought they would all be electric units.
The electric choke on my Weber works brilliantly.

You`re right MWP, this webber has a round plastic disc shaped thingy on the side with a spade terminal. I asume that will be the electric choke.

The important thing is to get the jets right. If you can find someone who has used the same carb on the same type of engine and you copy their jet sizes, you should be close. You'll need three or four main and two or three idle jets to try at minimum. They are about $8 each. But only dyno time will get the most out of these carbs.

    Yup, thats it.
Hook up that, along with the fuel cutoff solenoid (on the side of the carb if it has one) up to your ignition power line.

    $8ea? Pffft.
Solder them up and re-drill the holes... best way to do it
Dont forget about the air-correction jets too, they are just as important.

I prefer to know what size they are by the number stamped on the side, without using drill bits. Besides, where do you get drill bits in those sizes?

Yes, air correctors are important, but mains and idles will get you going to start with. Then you can fine-tune the top end with air correctors.

    Big Drama,
All was going well today, untill I over tightened the studs which inturn lifted the top adaptor plate up and cracked right through DOH!!!!
Have found another and will be here tomorrow or the next day.
The toyota had 3 wires going to it, one was ilde stop soliniod, one was electric choke and not sure about the third. All I did was hook the choke and cut the other two as there was no were to connect them on the webber.
What about the vacuum advance there is two lines and only one port on the webber?

Yeah, true, i dont know what sizes im actually using, but thats ok with me.
The drill bits are electronics bits for drilling PCBs.
