i think people may be getting confused on this water neck issue...
the piece being reffered to is the short bit with an "O" ring on either end that joins the 2 water pipes NOT the actual water neck that the radiator hose connects too.

    Hope that clarifies.

yeap, I thought that the one connected to the radiator hose was the one being described, thanks Wildsupra for clarifying that

Correct, the water neck is the aluminum piece with the two coolant temperature sensors in it. The base of this, where the o-ringed tube fits in is actually about 1/2 of an inch lower. The o-rined tube that fits into the waterpump is the SAME size on both motors.

Another thing I forgot to mention, the 2JZ serp belt tensinoer is about 1/2" longer then the 1JZ one. I don't think it's absolutely required to use it, but it's a good idea.

BTW, My 1.5JZ is running (very well too) as of Sept 5. I stil don't know why people think things need to be welded up. Nothing needs to be welded. It's a very simple bolt-on affair.

oh really, wind some boost into the thing and watch the water poor into your no 2 cylinder.

every one i have seen where they havent welded up the spot in the head they all leak water into 2 cylinder.

It helps us JZ owners to differentiate. I personally hate it when some people (US mainly) call their engine's 1jz's even when they are 3L. Not comparable whatsoever. So easier to call it a 1.5j as everybody knows what that is anyway.

Just like people call an RB30 with a GTR head on it, RB26/30. They don't call it an RB28 because RB numbers actually refer to displacement unlike Toyotas.

    BTW Good info. Rob.

i bought my head allready done mate, i have seen 2 other cheap ass attempts and 1.5jz's where they just bolted a head on and both detonate bad and both end up with water pooring into 2 cylinder.

JHH heads in qld did mine, they agree with what i have seen, they wont disclose what they do and i dont blame them, they have worked it out, they deserve to make money off that knowledge.

sure its not the poor tuning that detonated them blowing the HG, causing them to leak water in?

    wasn't having a dig,
it was just the fact that you mentioned they had detonated and that caused me to ask the question.

logically speaking if an engine is detonated it causes probs thats why i asked.

has anyone got pics of a 1j head or in particular the no2 chamber that seams to have the problem.

    cheers

There would be a strong reason behind toyota having designed the 1 and 2 J headgaskets
with different size water holes , could even be that the water pump has to work harder to push the coolent a extra inch higher for the 2j .

precisley cambelt, the 1j and 2j head gaskets are different, and you use a 2j head gasket.
