Default Celica Ra65 engine swap to 7mge

Hi my friends just bought a Ra65 celica 1984. the 22re motor in bad shape. i got a spare
7mge motor. Is the 7mge Feasible engine swap to the Ra65 that uses a w58?

Are you doing it twice? (joke at double post).

Its too hard, and it wont be good for weight distrobution.

Get a MA61, put a 7M in that, its all bolt in (not that ive done it, but heaps on this forum has).

You CAN use the RA65 box, its a W55 or W57? either will bolt to a M engine with the right bell housing. But the ratio's arnt suitable, so W58 is a better idea, it will bolt in.

Mounts will all have to be fab'ed for a RA65 and you'll need thermo fans if not radiator moved forward.

    Still, MA61 definately better idea.

    IMHO, MA61 = M or JZ

    RA65 (SA63) = 3S

Just because you have a car and an engine, is rarely a good reason to do an engine conversion. And definitely not in this case. If you want to get your Celica up and running, go to the wreckers and buy a running 22R long motor for a few hundred bucks. While a 7M will fit with some effort it's way, WAY more hassle than it's worth.

There's no doubt the engine will "fit", but there's a great deal more to an engine conversion than just lowering the engine into place. Also in this case, an atmo 7M is hardly going to be a stunning performer - so after all that effort getting everything hooked up and working properly it will perform slightly better than a VN Commodore? Not my idea of worthwhile, perhaps others will disagree though.

I have an RA65, and may well have a spare 22R kicking around fairly soon. While replacing a 22R with a 22R could well be considered just plain horrible, if you just want to keep the thing going a bit longer, at least until you save up for a more ambitious engine swap, it might be the go.

the 7mge front sump (if it is) will clash bigtime with the anti-roll bar.

Any time someone mentions a 'free' M engine, the M-people vultures always come out of the darkness!

hello, This is my first post so be nice...

I have an sa63 celica (with the 22re and w58) and i have been trying to decide weather to drop a 7mge in.

I have done a bit of research and i think ill need a complete cresseda engine with new w58, and an MA61 crossmember with 7m engine mounts and an electric fan and 7m radiator head gaskit and a head stud kit.

The complete engine ive been quoted $800 au plus i have an uncle who can help me with it ( he has heaps of tools plus he does this sort of thing for fun)

But anyway, this is my first real car, but the engine just doesn't cut it plus i need a project to keep me occupied, although i don't have alot of cash to get fancy 1jz's or a new car entirely.

So as a first engine swap, would this be a big no-no or what?

I realy need to get an opinion from somone who is eperienced with this swap.

    Thanks

    Brendan

As a first engine swap, and as you have to buy the engine etc. anyway, then it's definately a bad choice. Stick with something 4-pot is the easiest option, or maybe get a bit more adventurous and do what I was going to do to my Corolla, and put a V6 in (I was going to use a 1 or 3MZ - by V6, I do NOT mean one of those hideous iron Buick lumps from a VN!)

what makes the 7m a bad choice technicaly speaking as apposed to the V6? I don't mind at all going out and getting the engine just incase you were wondering.

the 7m from what i can gather, a longer motor and although it is possible to squeeze it in there, its a bit harder than say, the MA61 since the xA6x celica's have a shorter engine bay. there is someone on the forums who was selling one recently i think, it may be worthwhile asking him what kind of effort went into the swap.
you could try what mrshin has said and put a v6 in there but thats pretty much unchartered territory (afaik) as i haven't heard/seen of anyone doing one into an xA6x chassis.
common engine choices are 1G-GTE's as they fit in nicely without too much modification. this is what i'll be doing eventually
