Default 2JZ Water Pump onto 1JZ

okay so i did a bit of searching and i found some info in some threads about converting the water pump on the 1JZ but im a bit clueless about what i actually need.

so heres the lowdown. I have a JZA70 1JZ with the hydraulic pump. i will not shell out the $1800 toyota quoted me this morning for it. so, apparently the 2JZ pump goes in but what exactly do i need.. can someone give me an exact list of what i need to make it all work?

    i know i need the following -

    16100-49846 Water Pump JZA-80 2JZ-GTE
    2JZ Water Pump Pulley
    2JZ Serpentine Belt
    1JZ Timing Belt

I've heard that I might need a new 2JZ Water pump housing too, is this correct?

HELP! I just want to know the complete list of parts i need to order today.

Your best bet is to order the parts for a JZZ30 soarer. They have the non hydrolic waterpumps. To change the pump you only need the jzz30 waterpump and pulley. You can use the jza70 serpentine belt. Then just replace the timing belt with a 1jz one.

    jzz30 waterpump = $105
    1jz timing belt = $55

Thats what they cost me a few weeks back. But thats trade price.

yeah the only tricky thing i think is the pulley for the waterpump, otherwise everything else is pretty straightforward.
but get the 2jzgte waterpump (it comes as a complete unit)
find a soarer waterpump pulley and that's pretty much all i can think of
the timing belt is only required if you are replacing it for your service, but considering you have delved that deep into the engine, you may as well (and all the other things associated with pulling that much of your engine off.).
i did a thread on how to change it all a while ago and did a lot of pictures, if you take your hydraulic setup off, you should see pretty quickly what of the regular stuff would be required to replace it with.

hey why not just go for a davie craig ELECTRIC WATERPUMP? cost about $450 all up, for the pump and the pump controller....plus it does suck any power to turn it....

Im looking at doing the same thing have searched through quite a few threads about it so the soarer water pump doesnt some with the pulley or they pulley part you are talking about is that the part that bolts to the front of the pump? From what i read i didnt think the 2J pump fit? As i have to do this before i get the car running in my celica? Hence im also not running power steering and A/C so i have to run a smaller belt any way.

2jzgte pump fits onto a 1jzgte (verified by looking at my reciept)
    2jzge doesn't fit onto 1jzgte
looking at this picture this is what you will get from toyota for 120-160ish odd...the big shiny monstrosity that looks pretty in its own quirky way ...(mind the writing on the picture, it is from another thread)

looking at this picture you will see a pulley on the pump and also the clutch fan.

to get it all to work you at least need the pulley or something equivalent. it is not part of what you get from toyota for the water pump so you would need to hunt it off of some other 1jzgte or similar from another car (although i am sure you could order it if you desperately wanted to from toyota).
you could aslo get the fan but this isn't as necessary as you could just use electric fans instead.
pictures stolen from " GUIDE timing belt and water pump replacement JZZ30 soarer 100K service" but as if i care i wrote the other article anyway

I have just fitted a 2JZ water pump to my 1J but was left with a pipe fitting that i have no idea what it's for. The 1J pump didn't have it so there's no pipe to fit onto it. Do I just block it off? It's a downward facing barb which is located at the front, under the part of the pump housing that the pulley shaft goes through. Does anyone know what i'm talking about?

Just ignore it, it's sort of an early warning system, once it starts leaking coolant you know your water pump is on its last legs.

So if i leave it open it won't piss out coolant unless my pump is dying? It's brand spanking new so it should be fine for a little while.
