Default Ae92 20v ST Clicking Idle Control Relay(S)

I have this wiered problem with my SX, when it is warm and you pull up at the lights and let the engine idle with no load, the idle gets rough and a fast clicking noise comes from the centre console. Sometimes the car will stall, but if you keep a little bit of throttle on, the clicking stops.

I'm not sure if I just need to statically increase the idle speed, or whether something wierd is wrong like the two idle controls solenoids have been wired in reverse?

Also there is a little flat spot when going from coasting (rolling with no throttle) to accelerating that can make the car jerk.

A friend said it could be the Oxygen sensor but the engine light is not on so i don't think it is.

(Apparently the car has always done this ever since the conversion)

Any help would be great, although the problem doesn't majorly affect the driving of the car.

possible the AFM Fuel control signal isn't keeping the circuit opening relay open constantly at idle, causing it to click on and off when there's not enough airflow when you're off the throttle?

that was one of my symptoms, the idle, but no clicking sound,
this was on my silvertop as well,
    ended up being the TPS.
i had to keep it revving to stop it from dying.
What is autosalon? Sounds kinda homo.

Did you fix the problem Jorrs? If you did did you adjust the TPS or actually replace it?

Not sure about the AFM control signal, the car seems to be fine under all other conditions so its seems wierd that the AFM would be bad, but I'm pretty new to all of this so maybe it is?

Does the AFM use a potentiometer? If it does maybe you are right and it is worn at low flow values giving a dirty signal?

the AFM has a switch in it that is meant to keep the circuit opening relay energised when the engine is running and air flowing through the AFM. The circuit opening relay should be mounted on a bracket bolted to the side of the ECU, the ECU is mounted under the heater box/behind the center console

So this circuit operates without intervention of the computer? Ie the sitch in the AFM directly operates this relay?

    yes.

On a silvertop AFM 20V the switch operates the relay when the engine is running.

On a blacktop MAP 20V there's an Fuel Control output on the ECU that controls the circuit opening relay.

yeh replaced the TPS as it had had its time, and now runs perfect.. jsut something to have a look at, could save u alot of hassle.
