    Default 1jz Oil Pressure

    hi folks

i am wondering if any one is running an oil pressure guage on their 1j and what readings they are getting.

i am finding that under load my oil pressure is only rising approx 5 psi to the point where the needle is barely moving. this has always been the case ever since putting the large turbo on.

i have checked oil levels and they are perfect. so it wouldnt appear to be an oil surge issue.

on really hot days the oil pressure is 15 to 20 psi higher than a normal day.

the reason i ask about the oil pressure is having previously owned holden v8's the oil pressure raised some 20 psi under load. i know holden and toyota not much of a comparison but worth and ask.

    shane.

I have an oil pressure guage but it is fitted to the old turbo oil inlet so apparently it will read differently to someone who has the sender closer to the oil pump.

Mine reads 40psi at idle but haven’t really had a chance to check what it reads when giving it some berries. Next time my car is mobile I will check for you

my 1G gets 30-40 at idel and 80 anything above about 1500rpm. i would think yours should do something much like mine, even if its a different motor. i have been told that wrong oil can cause the oil pressure to do funny things, like if it is too thick or thin. if you have an engine temp gauge and it doesn't change on hot or cold days then something is wrong i would think.

Ihave been also told that you really need that change in oil pressure to help it run. except if your always about 80PSI. if it is always low then i would think it wouldn't be as good. Mine sits at 80PSI until the motor is properly warmed up no matter what revs your doing

mine sits on 70 psi when cold and on nice cool days, lately its been at 90 psi. and it basically sits on the same from start up to fullboost at runnning temp.

if you have an engine temp gauge and it doesn't change on hot or cold days
then you probably have a cooling system thats doing its job properly..

hmmm ok, well thats not as bad as it sitting on 30PSI all the time, what does the car idel at??

My car does funny things, if you pump the accell it will idel just above 1G and oil pressure is 80PSI, after about 30 secs the revs drop to about 700 - 800 and thats really the only time i see low pressure so maybe yours doesn't idel low enough to have it drop, i would think this would happen if its auto as well since they idel higher. Does your beast have a oil cooler? as that may be cooling too much??? try and see if you can't get it to idel a bit lower (pull the handbrake on and pull out the clutch a bit) and see if it makes a diff.

90PSI is getting to the high stage too, maybe you oil is a bit thick?

yeah i just went through the cars section to see what you have (a link in your sig would be nice )

And with all your mods i would think thats it idels a bit higher then a manual would? although i guess in drive it would still be about the same, i would see if you can drop the idel a bit momentarily and see what happens, although i guess there will always be a point where the pressure drops.
