in pretty much every state you will need a engineers report.

if there is more than a 15% power differance from the original motor in the chassis you need to get it engineered. thats the rule in every state

in WA you dont need an engineers report for MA70 > JZA70, you need to go over the pits and have them check everything though.

im not sure for GZ70, as its a pretty severe boost in power, especially from 1GGE...

Wouldnt it just be easier to call Vicroads and know for sure?

i reckon you would for ma70 to jza70. what you mean to say is 7mgte to 1jzgte you won't as the increase in stock power is less than 15%, but from 7mge to 1jzgte you would.

the problem most times with import motors is to prove to the rta there is no more than 15% power upgrade is you need a letter from the engine manufacturer stating both motors power outputs. and since toyota australia don't endorse the 1j, they probably won't quote a power figure for it.

    god these regulations suck.

i don't see why you have to, i mean, the **A70 freekin well came from factory with the 1JZGTE! it's obviously a safe conversion if properly done

the JZA70 was released in Australia with the turbo?

in that case, it should be able to be owner certified.

    if not, you need gingerbeers

From Vicroads VSI 8, Section 3 "Approved Modifications", subsection 2 "Engine Changes":

"An engine or transmission change where the replacement is of the same model, type and capacity, as one fitted to a vehicle of that model as original equipment..."

No need for engineering a 1jz in an *a70 in Victoria. Read it yourself on the Vicroads website.
