    Default smiley bumper conversion

Hi all, I recently purchased a front smiley bumper from Australia. Well it doesn't fit. I have a RA-29, the yard said it came off of a RA-28. I always thought the only difference between RA28/29 were notch/hatch back? The mounting brackets said RA28 and from what I've seen in pics it looks like a RA28 bumper and shrouds etc. The bumper is too narrow by about 3". Instead of going up beside my head lites, it covers part of my outer head lites. It measures 48" on the inside tips and 53" on the very outer tip to tip. I have no pics right now but has the signals in the bumper. Can some of you Aussie guys maybe do some measuring for me so I can find out what it's off of, so I can resell and try to recoupe some money? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Gabe J

this thread is in the wrong place too.

It sounds like someone might have sent you a TA22 bumper which definitely won't fit. Pics will certainly help though!

    Hi,

Yes, pics would be most helpful.

However, if it had lights (indicators) in the bumper than that would exclude a TA22 bumper.

Was what I was thinking originally, but after reading it again it's going up near his outer headlights rather than going near the parkers, which is why he said it's too narrow by 3", it doesn't make it all the way accross the car, which sounds like a '22 bar, but it can't be with lenses in the bar...

    This one sounds quite intriguing!

id say the same as teh 22, considereing it is on the same chassis, and the front ends are interchangeable

I'll measure it up later. The RA25/TA27 is a long-nose and therefore it uses the long-nose bumper. I am not sure if the short-nose bumper would fit. However, as mentioned by skiddz the width should be the same, or very similar - as they were all based on the TA22 chassis. I'll also check some diagrams I may have with dimensions on them.

In any event, the RA25/TA27 and long-nose TA22 bumpers did not have indicators in them, and from what I'm reading the bumper in question has these items - which brings us back to the RA23/28 style front bumper.

Maybe Gabe has a rear RA25/TA27 smiley, which has the red reflectors in it and he is attempting to fit this as a front bumper? Hence the bumper seeming to have lights (even though they are just reflectors) and also the issue with width and fitting - though I need to measure the rear bumper also to get it's width. Mind you, this is a big assumption on my behalf and I don't think Gabe could mistake a rear bumper for a front one.

    I anxiously await the pics.

Yeah, sounds screwy to meee... I sent an RA23 bumper set off to the states, and they didnt have any probs fitting to an RA24 (RA23 and RA28 have the same front ends). Pics will be the most help.
