Yeah my mates Mazda R100 had a roll brought a tear to a few peoples eyes I think.

One of the most unique rare cars there and just was a freak accident. He spun on a corner, hit the grass and slid into a bit of a ditch where the wheels dug in and the car rolled up on its side. Quite a bit of damage done but managed to drive home.

So that and yeah as mentioned an oil spill put a damper on the day.

But on a positive note the RA28 went really well! I got a 1.15 lap which was 4 seconds quicker than last time I was there. I seemed to be averaging a 1.16 though. My only complaints was out of the hairpin the right hand wheel or diff or something was rubbing really bad. I tried adjusting the panhard rod to move the diff over but no help.

I was worried about it overheating as on the dyno it was struggling to keep the temps down, but out on the track it was fine! Temps rarely got above 90deg.

The AE86 wasn't quite as competitive as last time it was down there. The firmer springs we put in the rear were causing it to oversteer too much. Also possibly too much toe out as was quite unstable under hard braking and wanting to turn in too much, though that could be castor or bump steer even.

    Cheers

Sounds like you were having fun Joel. Congrats on the good times too, they are impressive times for any street car/driver.

Commiserations to your friend with the R100. I hope it's repairable. I know as a standard car they have woefull handling and brakes have but my guess is that this one like most of them now would have had that updated. I hope your friend only suffered a bruised pride and wallet.

Hey Anthony, hows it all going? I received your letter thankyou very much, great picture of James there!

Yeah the R100 was quite far from stock. It really seemed to be a freak accident. Earlier there was an oil spill on the area of the track where he lost control, so i'm not sure if that contributed to the spin out as he mentioned he wasn't pushing it any harder or doing anything different there.

Joel, any news on the R100 damage and repairs? Hoping its not unrepairable?

Also, anyone get any decent pics? Paul?

My car's been sitting in the garage since, mainly because my tires have ZERO rubber left and i'm trying to scape together the cash...

Was a shame to have a couple of stoppages during the day but i hope everyone still felt they got plenty of track time? I know i still managed to completely destroy what was left of my tires
only now my car is sitting in the garage till i figure out how to find the cash to pay for new ones...

Hey mate, the R100 made it home, went into the garage and I dont think it has seen the light of day yet. I think Don is working on the theory of 'out of sight out of mind'. I'm sure he'll get to it eventually. We're all good mates with a panel beater up here who originally repaired/painted the R100 so he'll look after it im sure.

I got no pics really just a few around the pits.. Got a bit of video footage i'd like to share but im so crap with video editing stuff.

I felt I got heaps of track time! I worked out I did around 30 + laps which I think is more than enough punishment for the celica in 1 day.

I thought I made it home with no damage report, but noticed on the way home from Wakefield my idle was up 400rpm or so. This got gradually worse.. I finally got around to checking it last night and there are some nasty cracks through the bellmouths on the plenum. Must have been too weak/thin/not enough bracing.
    Nothing serious though..

I'm looking forward to the next day .. I heard through Don (R100 owner) that the Mazda club is organising a Oran park day soon.. I might try to get along to that, i've never been around Oran park.
    Cheers

This lack of photos is sad, I hereby swear to attent the next track day, reguardless of me racing (though I think I will ) and I'll bring my digital SLR with massive yo lens( well it's not my lens, they are expensive ). I should be able to get some quality racing pics of everyone's car. Think telephoto and low...

Joel.. There's a pic of your mates R100 on the disc as well - Will email it to you tomorrow.
