    Default Best 4age ecu???

    Hey everyone!!

AS in the subject i was wondering what the best aftermarket ecu would be for a ?red top? 100kw 16V 4age in an ae86???
Also what sort of power increases would i expect??
    Is it worth it??
The car is currently running with the normal ecu but is a bit rich. The ecu was mounted in the passenger foot well by a previous owner and has been kicked around a bit!!

    Anyway thanks in Advance guys

In order of best to worst imo

    E&E Freedom
    Motec
    Autronic
    Haltech
    Adaptronic
    Microtech

All will run yur car and improve power and response. Yes It is well worth it.
Remember, its not just the ecu, its mainly the tuner who gets the best and safest tune for the car.

    Thanks man
    Just a couple more questions.
Do you know which are the easiest to install? Are these all 'plug and play' ?
Also best bang for buck (i'm on a pretty tight budget)
    Thanks

Definetly legal in WA, although it may require an emissions test over east.

Plug n Play ecu's are a completely different ball game. All the brands that ae86drift mentioned were for programmable ecu's that can be uploaded with different engine maps. PnP ecus come with the map already loaded in, and can be a cheaper alternative. However having said that, they are not what's always best for YOUR car. If your gonna do it, spend the extra couple of hundred bux and get a comprehensive system. Haven't heard anything about the Freedom systems, but the MoTeC ones are always very good (and aussie) but are also quite expensive.

The best thing to do I think would be to go to your local tuning shop, sit down and talk options with someone who knows a bit more about it.

    Umm, no.
A plug and play ecu is one that has the same plugs/pinouts as your factory ecu.
No company will do a 4age plug and play ecu.

What you have mentioned is basically a 'chip' like you can get with commodores.
You can get a 'mines' ecu for a few cars out there, these will also be plug and play, and preprogrammed like you said, but there will not be one for a 4age (well, I'll stand corrected, but I highly doubt it).

As mentioned above, find a local tuner, speak to people about who is a good tuner, and them buy the ecu they recommend for the job.

That list above is the best to worst in ae86drift's opinion, but it is also the most expensive to cheapest.

Would I spend $4000 on an ecu for a 4A? no chance in hell.
Its a basic motor, all ecu's will do every function you want, no need to spend thousands on functions you'll never be able to use.

    Thanks guys
It did all sound a bit daunting before but thats helped heaps!!
Only reason why i was leaningtowards a plug and play was well it was cheaper and also i haven't got a hope of tuning an ecu myself and i had heard that there weren't any decent tuners here in tas. A guy i know of had to take his car to melbourne to get a proper tune!!
Any way i'll keep researching now that i know what i'm looking for and we'll see what happens!!
    Cheers Cerby
