When putting the timing belt on my new engine today, the number 1 idler pulley has a different tensioner setup to my previous motor (gen2 st185). My old engine used the push rod tensioner which was bolted to the far left of the head and held in place with 2 bolts.
However, the new engine does not use the same setup and utilises a spring to tension the number 1 idler pulley and does not have the 2 bolt holes to use the push rod tensioner like the old engine. It seems identical to a 5sfe setup.
Am I using a different style head? Are ST185 and MR2 heads different? The inlet manifold and exhaust manifold still bolt up perfectly.
Any help would be appreciated!
I am pretty sure the 3/5sfe's in the mr2's have the spring and the 3sge/gte have the pushrod type.
