well.... from my very vague memory, a KE70 and KE30 tailshaft went into both TE72 and AE86 gearboxes, so i would guess (until someone corrects my poor memory) that they are same...

i thought (more vaguely) that the input shafts differed on the different T50's??

    "from THOSE cars"

anything celica and t50 is a 20 spline anything later than the ta23 ('75-6) had 22 spline, i had posted this information in one of your many threads where you could find the answer by searching, the same applys here search and you shall find

stu: the k series gearbox has a smaller splines /centre shaft, but same size outter bit, the ke30 shaft will fit and seal but because the splines are smaller it wont work

no imput shafts dont vary (hence my early t50 fitting snugly into a 20c clutch)

    Wrong!

TA2x, and TE7x are all 20 spline output shafts.
AE71 and AE86 are 22 spline output shafts.

As for placing a T series bellhousing on an A series gearbox ie a T bell on a 22 spline box) - there are minor difference in the front bearing support. yes you can physically bolt the bell up, but the lack of support to the front bearings needs to be addreessed with custom made shims - not cheap to do properly, but required to prolong the life of the gearbox.

My failing memory, tells me that the T18 5 speed box, had a missing spline on the output shaft ie. a keyway. The tailshafts were the poo, as the universal joints were non replaceable.

    cheers Chuck.
