Default Supercharger upgrade for 4AGE--> eaton M90

    Hi peoples,

Do you think that an eaton M90 would be a good upgrade, as opposed to a sc14. I want to keep it supercharged. Has anyone used an eaton before.

    Thanks

I was about to say no frigging way, but people have put SC14s and possibly SC12s on commodore V6 engines before, so it would probably work ok.

    do it!

    M90 would be MASSIF!

just run with a SC14 supercharger.

M90 is designed more for a 3-4L engine

M90 is designed for low boost on 3.8L.... say half a bar... and it's a shitty 3.8L.. so say it is actually designed for 4-4.5L.. and a low revving one at that....

so it may not be that far off.. and being twisted lobe it'll be a little more efficient..

the flow tables are available on the net, so juts have a look at them...

spend the cash and get a lysholm 1600

    like lysholm 1200/1600?

afaik, whipple produce under contract from lysholm... as do autorotor...
ken belle makes great ones with a different lobe count but they are for big cars...

methinks lysholm 1600 would be good for 18-20psi on a 4AG....

Sprintex in Aus has the production licence for lysholm style SC's... they are in WA? wbsite sucks tho..

yup, the sprintex website sucks.. they sell two flavours of SCs:
    Sprintex Superchargers
    and
    Opcon Autorotor

no prices listed so i'd assume they're as dear as poison much like CAPA.

Ive been in talking with Terra Charger and they do a few good ones that may suit the GE/GZE motors. Like to see one. But i'll see how the sc14 turns out first

You'd be suprised how much power it takes to drive a roots supercharger. If you fit too big a SC you may find that the engine has barely enough power to drive it. Like anything on a modified engine, you must suit it to the application.

try checking out this thread from Twincam...

there is a member named "bsee" that was working on a centrifugal kit for the 4a engines...

it does also depend on the flow rates... the bearing resistance should be similar between an SC12 and SC14, however pumping same air at same pressure, they should consume about same power?? (perhaps SC14 a little less as it is turning X% slower?)

lysholm use around half the power of a roots.... which is like free power (well.. it's poor bang for buck but you know what i mean )

centrifugal would be interesting to see on a high revving 4...
onb 8's they work well cos they have relatively limited rpm range, or if not, they are not concerned with lowend.... and 4's tend to increase revs quicker than 8, so perhaps there could be issues there...

i'd like to see one going tho

The M90 displaces 1.484L per revolution compared to the SC14 at 1.4L per rev so they are very similar in size.

The M90 is more efficient with the twisted lobe design though.

This is a good sight for compressor maps (both turbo and different sorts of superchargers):
    http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/turbotech.html#whipple

The M90 will be a lot cheaper option than a lysholm supercharger and an improvement over the SC12. Although the Lysholm supercharger (albeit Whipple, Autorotor etc) for a supercharged only application would be very nice

I recall reading somewhere that Terra-chargers use Eaton internals anyway.
