fuel tanks - RT142 & RA40 - similar? update: RT142 FITS RA40!

I met up today with a guy in Brisbane putting a 3SGE into an RA40 for road/track car... He fitted the tank out of a donor RT142 into his RA40. The filler neck has to be swapped or if you loosen the filler tube clamps when fitting the RT one work., but otherwise it fits into the same space. The bonus being that it comes with in-tank pump for EFI and the hardlines from the donor car, were easily fitted onto the target RA40 however underneath the rear seats the hardlines are usually attached to a rail underneath the RT142 so some kind of shielding is suggested for this section to prevent road debris damaging the pipes.

i was underneath an RT142 (avante 22RE-powered thing) today to remove the brakes (long story, will make it into my member's ride shortly) and i had a good look at the EFI tank... and was wondering if they're similar?

They sit on the same side, the filler seems to be in a similar spot, the wheel bin's in a similar spot, ... dunno... given that Mr Toyota liked to re-use parts across models, i wonder if the tanks got re-used.

Next time i'm out at Wacol i'll try to pull this one and one from an RA40 hatch (if there's one there) - but i was wondering if anyone else has compared these already.

The reason i ask is because it's already EFI and an in-tank pump (and my RA40 obviously wasn't EFI to start with).

RT142 are the same as MA61, MZ10, RA6x.

Dunno about anything earlier.

You can try / compare the Z10 one I have ...(if it is indeed the same as RT142 etc...)

There is somebody else here interested in this (check the thread about the RA65 tanks). When I put an RT142 tank in an RA60 last year, I too noted that it looked close to an RA40 tank. Measure your tank, then measure the RT142 tank.

anyone thought about honda tanks? they might do the trick, small and shallow, pumps to handle highly strung engines and usually good enough for turbo set ups?

i was thinking more about ease of fitting into the current space (and wrap around the spare-wheel bin) - i figured another model will have such a different shape that you'd be better off making a custom tank.

Currently, i'm not running a surge tank and the EFI pump & pre-filter is a bit exposed being ziplocked to an alloy plate between the tank and pitman arm mount - but an intank setup would be a lot less prone to road-debris - plus a bit quieter.

I think the idea is that the corona/celica tanks would be physically the same, and so no physical modification necessary to install.

something to consider;

im running RT142 5/16th hard line in the RA40. it fitted with very few mods. the overall floor layout is nearly identical to the ra40.

I call BS...ST142 is carby (2S-C....) not EFI....explain

am trying to recall a phone conversation i got at work - am 38.45% sure he said STxxx ... but if was non-EFI then he either got a RT (from a 22RE) or he's a bit of a dill (like me).
