    Exclamation 1JZ in to a TA23!!

    Need info for future build!!

I was fishing for any info on people who have built up TA23's or even RA23's with a 1JZ under the hood. I live in SA and i'm unsure of who to go to looking for answers. I'm guessing Transport SA is a good start but with the trouble my uncle had with them with his kit car, i figured i'd ask you lot 1st, seeing as you all love your Toyota's. Any info is appreciated and will not fall on deaf ears.

    Cheers guys and girls

when i spoke to an engineer about this a while ago they said they would approve an engine up to 2.5 litres turboed...this means the 1jz would fit.
Ironically despite being heavier, having more power output, and more torque, they would approve that but said i would have to do substantial modifications to install a 1uz.
    go figure

just submit an 'approval to modify' at the motor registry and they will tell you if its legal, and if you need to upgrade brakes etc...

Theres a guy in canberra who I helped out with some 22' parts, he's building up a ra/ta23 with the 2jzgte

    No shit!

He doesn't plan to put it on the road, track and drag days only.

However, the mods he is doing to this beast are VERY extensive.....

If I can source his info, ill pass it along.

I was talking to my engineer here is tas after asking him about the ra23/2jzgte
Which according to the NCOP's is just over the limit and he mentined that i should get a stock standard ra23 with stock wheels(which i have), fill up all under bonnet levels and half fill fuel tank, make sure diff and gearbox are full, spare tyre and jacks are in boot and go to a weighbridge and get the ticket for the weight.
With that ticket(if it is over the 1067kg??? claimed for these vehicles)i could legally put a 2jzgte in a *a23 celica.
But dunno about you blokes over there we are a bit more leaniant down here.

that would be cool, but honestly ( no rotary comments today guys) there is no need for a
2JZ in a old skool celica,

one you will have to chop it up

and second of all people are finding it hard to get traction with the 1GGTE

you guys really dont realise how light these cars are, and how much power the 1J puts out, which i think is a bit over the limit, let alone a 2JZ.

id reccomend one of the later model VVT-i 1J's, as you'd have the same as a modified 1G, with less work, and (hopefully) less money.

and i doubt you'd ever have to modify the 1J.

    in short

    2J into 1st gen = bad idea.

speaking from personal experience, a 1JZ in an RA23 is PLENTY!!!!
i was running stock intercooler, stock exhaust, stock cat and 13psi. 180RWKW.
when the rear end breaks out in second gear over taking a tram on the inside, then youll know why a 2JZ might be a bit over the top.
    1JZ = HEAPS of grunt.

well rta dont care bought weigh bridge tickets.

they have their list of weights and thats what they run off.

and technically speaky (in NSW at least) they go off tare weight and dont include options like aircon etc.

and with how thin on the ground 1G's are getting 1JZ is the new 18RG .. every1 wants one ... not many can handle it /waits for River ...

its only the basics but i kind of want to show that with a little thought its really quite easy to shove a 1JZ into a RA23/28. have it finished in a day. he he he
