Fwd is usually 411 or 4.3
'Lo Lads,
He has been of much fruitless searching but is wishing to know what final drive ratio's are seen in the FWD/RWD 4AG - N/A transaxles?
Also how interchangable the driveshaft and spline-stubs are 'tween cars?
And finally, Aside from the shifter linkages on the opposite side are there any substantial differences which would preclude a FWD transaxle from being fitted to back of an AW11?
Cheers and Merry Xmas bitches...
Rex

There is this info out there. I had previously found a site that talks about swapping parts from these gearboxes to another etc.. I cant find that information now.
The site below really only helps if you know what you have in regard to the ratios....

CV shafts from LSD and non-LSD FWD gearboxes arent interchangeable, but i cant comment on the AW11 E52 gearbox's shaft(s)
.... heehee, i said shaft.
...... butt scratcher?!
yeah non LSD shafts are slightly longer and if used in an LSD box the hit the internals of the LSD and shag it faster than i can moleste a goat.
the AW11 shafts are the same as the LSD in those was a dealer fit TRD unit.
Most Corollas in Australia, from the early ones to the current ZZE122 will have a C52 gearbox. The import 4A-GZE Corollas have the tougher E51, or similar E series gearbox. Generaly, alot of parts from a C52 will not swap over to a E52 as they are a bit different. The bigger E series gearbox has double syncro rings and it's own oil pump, some have LSD.
The AE95 4WD has a gearbox bassed on the bigger E series, with the double syncros and oil pump, only it has a centre diff inside also. This is very similar or the same as the RAV4 gearbox also.
oh and yeah only difference to the aw11 box is the side the shifter is on
Witzl, do you know if this holds true for the C160 box? I have a C160 6 speed LSD box but the importer did not bring the shafts. I was wondering if I can use non LSD shafts.Originally Posted by The Witzl
Sorry guys.. I'm trawling around old E-series threads..
Does anyone know if the E51 gear sets will fit into the AE95 4WD (E57F5) box?
I 'believe' I have both boxes in my shed right now..
Recently bought a JDM AE92 4AGZE with original LSD box, modified for turbo from an unfinished project.
It was for the engine only to go into my AE95 4wd, so I didn't want the fwd box..
Being an AE92 I assumed it was a C-series, but a more experienced forum member looked at it and said it was an E-series, due to thicker shafts.. from web searching I suspect E51
Already pulled 4wd box with 4afe, now sitting on garage floor..

Any reason, other than for the LSD, why you want to swap it around? A mate is running a black top in his AE95 with 4WD still hooked up. It's been in there for about a year now and he redlines it daily, running nulon semi-synthetic with no grinding and no other gear trouble what so ever. From the research we did the box is as strong as any of the others (baring the obvious 153).
i've got an article on E code gearboxes my business web site that might answer some questions.

It's true, E-series boxes are tough az.. but do some research and you'll find synchro problems with the earlier boxes was quite common above 250k on the clock ..depending on how the car was driven. AE95 4WD's tend to get driven like trucks.
I have plenty of 1st hand problems with synchros in these wagons..
As far as I know the LSD won't fit the all-trac 4wd system ..but another reason for swapping is: 1st and 2nd gears in AE95 4WD are too low ratio'd for street use..
(off-road's great)
Slowly putting together 4AGTE at the moment so looking for taller gear options.
Turns out the fwd box I got is an LSD E58
Gonna take it apart and find out the hard way whether or not I can swap E58 gears into E57F5 case..
