That's a massive overbore. Have you checked this is real (even with some basic Vernier calipers)? Do they make 120 thou oversize pistons for the 18R? If not, what did they use?

by the looks mate, yes that cam is lumpy.
If you want to be sure send it to my work and ill cam doctor it for you.
hey mate. keep going with the pics....i'm gonna have my first go at rebuilding soon too and i have an 18r too +Rep
cheers dude i keep goin with the pics like when im changin ring and bearingsOriginally Posted by Hash_ra23
judging by your photo's it looks like the engine was getting water into number one cylinder aswell.
agreed. I've seen this happen on two 18R-G blocks as well. Be sure you get the block and head decks machined.Originally Posted by jeffro ra28
I also recommend getting a balance and whatnot when you have the bottom end at the reconditioners.
...... butt scratcher?!
and make sure you include the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch that you'll be putting on the engine - balancing will make the tractor motor rev a bit smoother.
ok ive cleaned all the pistons
cleaned all the head in an acid bath and cleaned valves
got all the parts for a rebuild chain tensioners rings bearings waterpump etc $280
shood have it in by middle jan late jan
cheers luke
should go well with those little bits, and the freshen up.
might be worth picking up a cheap haynes manual incase you need to double check a clearance etc
the 18rc in my daily RA40 is suprisingly powerful. bulk torque off the mark that goes all the way to 5K. bit of a phreak motor compared to the other four 18rc celicas ive been in
sits on 1500rpm in 5th gear no probs.
are you going to open up the inlet (carby) and exhaust (extractors).
i found a HUGE benefit from mechanically connecting the primary and secondary butterfly.
it might even be worth investing in a weber if your going to this much effort.
did you get a decent amount of material shaved off the head? im convinced a rise in compression would do wonders for this engine! it would be best to ask the forums to find up how much material can be safely removed though.
hope it goes well
hello
i have just discoverd the is a small crack in the head and a mechanic mate said you will have to get that welded up so does anyone no a place where i can get i done a a fair price (im in sydney) i wanna keep this head cause last owner spent some good money on it getting it ported and polished (as some of you a aware with cast iron heads ) and the big cam
cheers luke
I wouldn't weld it up, for the cost of a replacement 18r head, I'd get one.
welding is total hit and miss. Yer sometimes it works. Where abouts is the crack?
thats the crack (sorry bout crappy fone pic)
but so far striped the block and soon to be replacing rings bearings etc
Cheers luke
