    Default plastigauge

when i use plastigauge i do every journal and when other mechanics walk past they say just do one or two, if im building a stocko motor ill just do half but if im building a performance engine i do every single one because i work off the fact that anything can happen and id like to be able to sleep at night.

what do you people do just curious, ill always do everyone i cant rest unless i know.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

did those mechanics finish high school?
they don't care because it is not their motor, and they don't have to pay if it breaks...

    perhaps

Might as well jack the thread since its on the same topic I assume you should oil the journals and bearings beforehand or measure when totally clean? Also what position of the crank is best to measure at?

    i always do mine dry.

and umm, you lay it along the width of the journal, and it doesnt matter what position the crank is in, its meant to be round...

I just wondered if different positions would show inconsistencies in the crank journal diameter not being perfectly round. But then I guess you have another problem then.

yes u would, and im not sure if plastigauge would be accurate enough for something like that?
may be worthwhile, but it depends how much time you have on your hands...

do your measuring first then, when everything is within spec and OK - then oil your bearings ect and tighten things up.

do not oil bearings ect up then use plastigauge.
