    Default 4AG valves

    Hi All,

I need to strip a 4AG head and am up to removing the valves. Does anyone in the Adelaide area have a valve spring compressor and want to give me a hand?

    Cheers,
    Terry

I don't have a valve spring compressor, nor am I in Adelaide atm, but when I pulled mine apart instead of finding the correct tool I used a piece of PVC pipe, about 1" in diameter, & cut a little square (about 1/3 of the circumference) out of the side on one end. I used this to push down on the retainer & stuck a little magnet in the cut out section to pull out the collets.
Wasn't too hard to do, you do have to put a bit of weight on it but it saved buying or finding & borrowing a proper compressor.

You can get the valves out yourself no prob mate. Just sit the head on a bench put and put a scrunched up rag inside the combustion chamber .

Then use a spark plug socket and extension bar , give it a decent tap with a hammer and they will pop straight out no prob.
