AE82 cranks but doesnt start

4AGE bigport 88kw redtop

Diagnostic code definately seems to say 5-6 but I cant find this code anywhere in the service manual. This could be a problem from when I had the engine changed a while ago and unrelated to this.

Have checked EFI main relay and all fuses - seems ok

I put the fuel pump into diagnostic mode and I can feel a faint vibration through the fuel filter but can squeeze the pipe going to the fuel rail which leads me to think the filter is maybe blocked and not enough fuel is getting to the engine/cold-start injector.

How would I checked if the fuel pump is working, perhaps I should just change the fuel filter and see what happens.

Any other ideas ?

Was the engine running poorly in the time before it stopped starting?

Found this by googling (86 mr2 4agze ECU codes)
5 = O2 sensor (open in O2 sensor - lean signal only)
6 = RPM signal (No Ne, G signal within several seconds after start)

Not sure if they are the same across the board for all 4ag's but may help.

have you checked your coil is pluged to your distributer?

sometimes the simplest things can brnig you down.

Thanks for the codes lojik, the car seemed to be running ok before it didnt start but the sensors for this redtop may be slightly different for the ECU.

The coil pack is plugged in but there is a chance that could be shot too I guess.

I will investigate further and be back with updates !

Hmmmm. There are only 3 main things that will stop any car. Spark, injector pulse and fuel. If you have all three of them and it still doesn't go, take it to your local specialist
