Most gearboxes in the W50-W55 series are between 20 and 30 years old and all second hand. I fitted my 1st W55 from a 3TGTE in 1984, so many have high K's from 140,000 upwards, so mate sorry but you can't add anything to it to fix it,, Its worn and you will have to pull it apart and fix it. or get another one.

I'd guess that the 1st / 2nd shift fork is worn where the locking ball sits.

The thrust generated in the direction to knock it out of gear is enough to overcome the worn locking mechanism...and hence it comes out of gear during your on track spirited driving...

    My guess....

    (and everyone likes pics )

oil change -ran for a month .. then another oil change and it was fine.

mine i think was just tiredness from sitting around... bit of use

Yep, bought an RA23 LT Celica in 1982. On the test drive, it jumped outa gear, say me to the salesman well thats stuffed. Bought the car at a good price. Changed the oil a coupla times, and it was all good. The box was still good 7 years later when some one rear ended, and wrote the car off.

P51 in an RA35 had crunchy probs, 2nd gear. New 80 grade hypoid, and all good.

    cheers Chuck.

Probably not a good idea to have said that bud, Toymods doesn't condone street racing of any kind.. I'm not having a go at ya but it'll save you a headache further down the track..

All good mate. What you do is up to you, but the last thing we want is to encourage other people to do stupid things. It's bad enough as it is.

Edit: Oh have a good read through the FAQ, these forums run a bit differently than most others out there. Once again it'll save you the headache later on.

as for popping out, grind a properly sized bolt down, so that it slips in the detent spring, and shims it maybe 0.5mm or a bit more (start with more and grind less to get feel).
this will increase the thrust force required to overcome the detent (but also increase force needed to shift)
