    Talking MA61 - JZA61 conversion

    hey my name is jono, i am planning a 1jz-gte conversion for my 1985 MA61. conversion should commence very soon as i am lookin to buy an engine in about 2 months. i am not buying a half cut due to "no room to move" and price. thus i will not get absolutley everything i need for the conversion in one hit. thats why i am posting in here to ask for advise. i have already got this list made up of things i need to buy, with approx prices for them. if anyone knows what sory of money i need for the items listed "$?" please fill me in. any extra advise on what else is needed would b great thanks heaps!

    First-1jz-gte minus r154 $1500 approx
    1-jza80 bellhousing, clutch, flywheel. $600 approx
    2-engine mounts $ 250 approx
    3-aristo sump $300
    4-fmic pipes $500
    5- auto electrician $?
    6- bullshit little things $500
    i have the FMIC already.

    You will be needing a lot more money then what you have budgeted...

    Search on the forum as there are a lot of members that have done it...
    Here are some:

    What he said. $300 will barely cover the bellhousing, let alone the flywheel and clutch.

    Mate you are so underbudgeted - I don't even see where you have included the price of the half tank of petrol.

    Seriously, in the things you have priced, you're already close to 1K short.

    Might like to add exhaust to that list, as well as $500 for bullshit little things that you never expected.

    Fuel pump, air filter, thermo fans, gauges, brakes (pads at least), engineering.............it keeps going.

    I posted this somewhere once before, but I'll do it again from memory... (altho Dong's linked list looks pretty good)

    * Engine
    * JZA80 n/a flywheel, bellhousing, starter
    * new clutch
    * i/c piping
    * new power steering line
    * wiring
    * engine mounts
    * heater hoses
    * fuel pump (yes, the standard one is sort of ok, but touch that boost dial and it's no good)
    * Consumables (timing belt, assorted oils/fluids, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, etc etc)
    * Exhaust!
    * Thermos
    * assorted air-con stuff (if you plan to keep it)

    then budget in at least $1k for the "unforseen stuff" fund

    some people think its not a good idea to use the w58 as a 1j gear box, how much weaker is it to the r145? and how much longer is the w58 expected to last with normal driving? (i dont drive hard everywhere, only when ppl wanna race me, specially those 325i's. on the track of course)

    W58 is fine for the moment, just dont go spending big money on clutches or anything incase you decide to upgrade it.

    Stop racing beamers, especially shit entry level models. I still think you are sorely underestimating how fast your car is going to be with a 1JZ!!

    BTW: Its an R154, not R145

    Budget 8K for the engine conversion atleast, ps a 7mge MA61 could smoke a 325i BMW.

    I see no money alocated for an exhaust, piping, basic service items for the motor ie timing belt, water pump etc which if you are sensible you'd replace regardless of kms before then engine goes in.

    I'd budget around 1k for a bellhousing flywheel and clutch., don't forget to allow $500-$1000 for engineering etc , not trying to scare you just giving you a reality check.
    If in doubt power out

    w58 should be fine behind a 1j with stock turbos.

    Norbi keeps breaking them with his 2j, but behind my 1j (in a ma61) she was all good
