    Question Beams 3sge Rwd

Hi Folks, I am researching a Lotus Clubman build here in Adelaide. Would like to find out as much as possible about locating a Black Top RWD 3sge via local sources. A guy I know is planning a similar build and has ordered a front cut from japan for $5,500.....sounds like a lot to me.....?

its a beams motor... i have seen them sell for around 3000 just the motor, not a frontcut.

If you can get a beams for $5500 delivered i would say its a fair price. Compare it to a Honda S2000 motor, excelent motor, n/a, 2litre, and still costs a bucketload... they are in the same field me thinks.

    Hope it helps,
    ivan

S2000 is my first preference but, 8K to 10K is out of equation......second would be the beams but, again.....$$$$......might just revisit the SR20......probably wont tho.....
    Thanks for the reply ivan.

I assume you have talked to the other locost/clubman members in Adelaide. There are quite a few going around these days. A lot are powered by 4AGEs, but a non-insignifcant number by BEAMS 3SGEs and SR20s. Infact one has an SR20DET at the heart of it.

Personally I'd be looking into a 2ZZ-GE. They're all alloy and more to the point are Australian delivered making them a lot easier to get passed without full emissions testing.

I paid $5500 for my Altezza front cut, and that was in 2002 I think so I guess that's okay.

Great engine in such a little car.

But from what i hear they are a pain to get into RWD configuration.

FWIW here's some pics of it now, with the new sump guard, side exhaust, and recessed ADL.

i got offered one of these for my ae86 for 6g with the six speed as well, but not in the front cut, so 5500 sounds pretty good to me. there a pretty sexy engine. haha

Bitch!! As if your list of vehicles wasn't already enviable enough! I may have to sulk now, seeing as I would have a beams already if not for these damn overseas holidays (yes, confused emotions )

As far as clubmans are concerned, I've noticed a bit of a trend towards the 1ZZ of late. Less power than a 3S, but lightweight, and I can only imagine that the 2ZZ would be awesome. And they are easy enough to pick up from an auction or a wrecker. Maybe the NZ's would be worth a look in, but perhaps a bit small for most.
Nikita the RA23 is almost finished .
