Default Legalities of Removing & Refitting Build Plates

    Hey guys,

Does anyone know what the legalities are of removing build plates from the firewall?

The reason I ask is because when my car came to Australia, Toyota Australia placed 2 more build plates (eg Australian Standards etc) on the car but how they have been placed is absolutely terrible. There on angles and one even has been bent on the end because they put it to high!

PS My car is an Australian delivered 1986.5 Supra, so plates were put on back then here in Australia.

I want to drill the two out and reposition them so they sit correctly.

Are you allowed to tamper with the original rivits?. Sorry this may be a stupid question, but if I was pulled over Police may notice the shiny new rivits and think something is a bit sus.

    Rob.

and when they do a chassis number check, everything will be ok.....

everyone takes them out when painting engine bays etc...... just rivet them back on afterwards...... evn moving them to a better location doesnt seem like a big deal..... personally, i've never had any issues from cops before.... and i have never read anywhere about it all being illegal or such.

Mine doesn't have the build plate at all. Provided it has the chassis number clearly visible, they have no need for anything else.

if you are an approved and licenced workshop in Victoria you can attach and fit Complianc eplates, otherwise for obvious reasons NO.
Call VICROADS and ask its that easy.

There are 400 GT HO Falcons ever made plus a couple. There are over 500 past and present claimed as genuine in Victoria alone???? How is that so?

    I won't tell anyone if you don't..

If you're concerned about the rivets, dab them with a little bit of acid and they'll soon look pretty old - a common trick amongst folk swapping plates on LPG tanks.
