URGENT!RA60 fusable crossover wire magiver quick fix?

I gotta work at 6 tomoz, this arvo tried to jumpstart celica, retarted mistake, hooked up wrong way on celica,(was rushing and worried cos cop car was just sitting watching me on other side of road) went to start, nothing, went back round front and smoke pissing out of fusebox. I think its just the yellow fusably crossover thats fucked, totally burnt out. and quite melted. Nothings open here can get the wire, nothing will be open at 530 either is there anythng I can use to replace it? some kinda wire I can rip from something here? MAGIVER SKILL GO!

anything that conducts a large amount of current - a peice of fencing wire bend into a U should do the trick - or several short lengths of h/d speaker wire with the ends twisted together and shoved down both sockets for the normal fusable link.

McGyver would use high tensile wire extracted from his own anus and could do this with one hand tied to the back of head.

hehe i reversed the polarity on my car once, but i connected the battery terminals rong way round, didnt kill anythin tho lol
id go with any form of wire that looks pretty tuff, just enough to get u to work and out to the local parts place at lunch, good luck

Hi,

Hmmmm.... the fusible link connects from the +ve terminal of your battery to the AM section on your ignition switch. However, only about 4 or 5 inches of this wire is fusible. It's designed to melt off within 5 seconds when current exceeding 300Amps flow through it.

Assuming that you haven't buggered up anything, you should be able to get away putting in a substitute wire. If something is shorted-out 'cos of your previous actions, then when you attach the replacement wire there will be a few sparks and you will then know that there is more damage done and your plain out of luck.

The fusible link connects to a normal wire. You should be able to see this wire - connects to the fusible link via plastic plug connector. Try and find some wire that is a little less thick than the one the fusible wire connects to. Connect the replacement wire to the existing wire that connected to the fusible link and to the +ve post of the battery.

I would first connect the replacement wire to the old wire and quickly flick the other end (battery end) of your replacement wire across the +ve post of the battery. If there are no sparks then I'd proceed to connect it up properly. If it sparks then you have an issue that isn't going to be fixed tonight.

This is, at best, a crude extemporization, but it should get you going. In the interests of safety, I'd order a fusible link asap.

Yeah, im with River on this one... a bit of 10AWG copper wire should do the trick... dick smith 12V 15A stuff. Definitely grab some new fusible links asap tho, dont mess with this one.

Thanks for all the quick responses guys,
Ive ripped some wire from cd spekers, 2 pieces of wire, each with 2 wires, so essentially 4 wires. i pulled out the old sockets with the burnt bits of wire(crumbled) and stuck the 4 wires between them. It worked, now all i need is a jump start, either that or im push starting it by myself in the morning

no no charger,

and I have pushstarted it myself before, its tricky but not impossible. My mate actually jump started me this morning, very good of im, so far stereo wires working fine

no need to order, most auto electrictians, mechanics have got fusable wire.. Just need a day off work to get it! See I start at 7 am, finish at 5, so nothing is ever open...

uh oh

went to turn off lights, an back to "rolled back position"..but no loud clunks as they usually fold back. In other words they dont work. I checked all the fuses and none are busted, is there a differnt kinda fuse for the lights or could i have just melted them...

there may be a different fuse, check all ur fuse boxes, most cars tend to have 2 or 3 fuse boxes littered around the place, someone with experience with your type of car may be abl to shed more light but i think they would be on different fuse to the afore mentioned fusible links

yeah I think it would be seperate, its just odd,because everything else works, except the roll up lights, theyre in the up position and the actual bulbs still work too..
