Smile 4agze solid engine mounts, oil cooler/relocator kit questions

Hey ppl. Im currently rebuilding my ae101 4agze. All my engine mounts are torn to pieces and even with a little loving sikaflex attention, it wasn't previously enough to keep the thing under control with a 5 puck clutch.

Theres some things I want to prepare now, while the eng is out and getting prepped.

    -- eng mounts --
I want to pursue solid mounts or urethane mounts. Are these widely available for 4age compatible mounts (ie front, left and right?) What cost am I looking at?

    -- oil cooler --
My ZE also doesn't have an oil cooler. Ive got a 100kw 4age sump with oil cooler return and was wondering about the costs/brands of an oil cooler + filter relocator kit. I have heard that you want to be careful and get one with a thermostat to prevent oil from staying too cool. Do any of you have this type of thing in your ZE's?

I am planning for some seriously fun high rpm thrashing of the rebuilt engine...after wear in of course (forged lightweight pistons, modified oil pump for higher pressure, oversize bearings, 15psi SC12 etc)

Any recommendations you guys want to make while I am at this preparation stage, I am all ears

    Cheers
with a bit of luck I will be back on the road by christmas (spun big end bearings in around april)

You can go to a suspenion shop and they will rebuil your mounts for you or a rally specialist. You can get different strenghts of urethane so tell them what you want to achieve.

Just remember they were there to give you some movement so if they are solid you may end up breaking other things and the vibration will be worse through the car.

    Oil Cooler/Relocator Kits.

I have just recently installed my oil cooler and remote oil filter parts. I didnt buy a kit but depending on what you get it could be cheaper than getting seperate fittings with 1/2 hose from pirtek(which is what i did)

The oil filter relocator has one part for the block with has IN and OUT and the remote mount for the filter also has IN and OUT. Therefore its irrelevant(sp?) that you have a fiting in the sump or not. You could alwyas use the standard toyota sandwich block for the oil cooler.(Bigworm is using one on his ra23 turbo monsta)

Therefore you do this with a oil cooler:

    Block Out ->>> Remote IN >>>>>Remote Out>>>>Oil cooler>>>>>Otherside of oil cooler>>>>Block IN.

Im not using a thermo type just a standard type with an ebay 19 row oil cooler.

    Hope this helps.

high rpm and s/c dont match. specially running that boost. all you will be doing is pumping hot air into the engine.

there is no need to rev past 6200 on a GZE. its not achieving anything except putting heaps of stress on the s/c.

solid mounts will shake the shit outta the car at idle and can be a bit harsh. although there are some that MAY be ok. but you will still notice the difference.

Ok cheers guys. Mounts issue is easy as.

Oil cooler/relocator option without changing the sump is a great idea too. I will definately look into that.

Ive had the SC12 running at 15psi with my 600x300x76 intercooler and it was awesome so Im cool to keep that config until everything is back up and running.

There is no substitute for the response of the SC on a FWD car. Its like a gokart.

    Cheers

i beg to differ... ever been in a boosted aw11? now there's a gokart!

i filled my engine mounts with sikaflex 255, works great.

cuzzo, any more info or pics on what you used to make your relocation kit up?

I completely agree. It a function of SC efficiency. On my 15psi SC14 setup with custom oversized _everything_ and a big exhaust cam, it is pointless revving past 6K. The the dyno shows I have peak power around 7K, but the torque is dropping off above 5500ish, and anyway with all that low down torque why bugger the engine with excessive revs.

I stuck some urethane engine mounts from 'twosrus' in my car recently, and there is a bit more vibes that are especially noticible at idle and low-mid RPM. Certainly not bad but nowhere near as nice as the stock mounts for NVH (Noise/Vibration/Harshess).

    Cheers, Nick

Yeah the solid ones I've got are really damn shaky and the shaking doesn't go away till about 2,500-3000 rpm. You get used to it though.

i went to motorsport connections here in NSW(seven hills) and purchased a billet block adaptop, which screws onto the part where the filter used to screw on to.(

Then used 1/2inch pirtek hose with speedflow connections to the remote filter mount branded permacool. You can get left entry hoses, right entry, or top entry. All with different brackets for mounting to firewall or side of bay. It comes with the thread sleeve thing that the filter then screw's onto. All using the same original oil filter.

i wont post the entire message but heres a link to the custom mounts i built, solid as, but had enough give not to rattle everything to pieces, that thread has photos and a how to. piece of piss to make with basic tools.

permacool products can be sourced from rocket industries and are usualy cheaper as they distribute most things to the retailers.

they sell a kit for 110 dollars that comes with lines, fittings, adaptor plates.. everything bar the oil cooler. theres also a kit available through them that includes a cooler.

You've got an ae92/3, right? Why not use an SX oil cooler setup? You'd probably have to make customs lines cause you've got the front mount, but surely you could use the solid lines that go from the block through the front of the engine bay (don't quote me on that, been a while since I looked at that stuff on my car), then run flexible lines to a spot where the cooler would fit.

cuzzo: what car was this stuff on and got any pics? wouldn't mind a remote filter setup since it a bit of a bitch to chnage on ae93's with aircon
