Classifieds – I can’t do this or I can’t do that.

Sorry guys,
No this is not one of those questions that have become so very boring and frustrating and gets the big –ve rep stick working overtime.

I agree it’s more from the fact that I read here most of the time (95%) not logged in that I myself have not –ve rep someone for this question.
And log-on when I have a comment to make like this.

Since the new registration process filters out most of the join-to-sell people & tools.
But not all, how about we look at a way to make this fool proof.

Ok, mods/webmaster, is there anyway to insert another page between clicking on the classifieds link on the forum front page and the classifieds front page.
This new page could have the ‘FAQ’, ‘Rules for posting’ & ‘Who can post’ information on it.
Then at the bottom of the page two links IE: ‘Continue to Classifieds’ and ‘Return to Forum’.
This would mean that everyone heading to the classified section has to go through this new page, ok this would mean one extra click to get to the classifieds.
But this one extra click, could save all the wasted bandwidth with all the post about not being able to post in the classifieds.
Sorry about the long post.

Not a bad idea..... assuming it can be easily implemented.

As I have always been a financial member of the Club I can post in the classifieds and have no restrictions. However, I'd like to know what a person who doesn't have the necessary rep etc see when they try and post in the classifieds. Is there no option at all... or are they told they can't do it? Can someone illuminate me please?

i cant check now, but if its the same as when a non member tries to post an ad in the misc. section it says you dont have permission etc.

Thanks Wilo. Can that vBulletin msg be modified? If so then that would be a good place to put in some info about "rep points to post" or not being a financial member.... and also to use the Feedback section if you still have any queries. Also, maybe a link to the relevant FAQ that can provide more info?

Simply saying the user doesn't have the required priveleges or authorisation may need further clarification as to why they dont.

Is that possible?

I see you guys have modified the intro to the classifieds section unfortunately the whole message isn't appearing, I guess after the r its supposed to say refer to FAQ.



Maybe just a suggestion say, "If you can't post here read FAQ".

Edit its appears Takai has beaten me to it and you guys have changed it to something that fits, love your work at keeping the forums running smoothly.

Renaming the section to have it obvious right from when the user is looking for a classifieds was the most workable option I could come up with.

With a bit of luck it will help.

I love the way that people think they're doing everyone a big service by selling them things, this must be why advertising on TV is free, hang on

several of the guys here have -rep a person, and then wait for river to -rep them as well. It sound like the guys are putting the heads-up for rivers and are waiting for the massive -rep to follow. If some of the guys have -rep'ed a person, and explained why, then objective achieved. Leave it at that. Lets make sure that we don't loose new members with their knoweldge before they have even stepped thru the door. Forums are new to some people (including me). That new person could be the next rivers!!!

I watched that thread closely and only after he admitted openly that he was just here to sell stuff did his rep plummit. Before that it was at -8 (look at it now). He was never going to provide any knowledge to the site and he admitted as much hence the low rep. Those that wish to say after a battering about the FAQ's often make a recovery from an apology of some sort. Those that want to stay, end up staying. If they had no intention of staying to begin with and only want to sell stuff, why is that our problem?
