Default 2L diesel pump seal replacement.

    2L diesel pump seal replacement.

A mate of mine has a 90 model hilux, diesel. The motor is a 2L.
The “injector pump” is leaking fuel. He showed me a page from the manual which showed an exploded view of the pump. He pointed to two O rings that had to be replaced. He said he got a few quotes to get it fixed. $900 was the cheapest.
I am after a rough guide to replacing these two O rings, or at least an explanation why this would cost so much to replace. I could just work it out from the picture, but I'm inclined to think that it’s not that easy.

    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Lachlan.

Surely $900 would be to get the whole thing done with new seals and tested etc.
Being a 90 model it probably has a few klms on it and if two seals are leaking now then how long before the rest start to go?
Getting the whole job done in one go is surely better than replacing seals on the cheap as they fail.
    Just my opinion anyway.

na, apparently it's a common problem. the new diesel is harder on the old seals or something.

So that means that they will all fail in due course then.

I hope the 3L 2.8 pumps can handle the stuff or Dad is going to be pissed off when his goes in the van.

Its just the top o ring and the throttle shaft seal , both of which if your carefull you can do for a total cost of about $30 , take some photos if your worried about assembly, Its not hard to do . And dont go to a diesel shop get the seal and oring from toyota.

Anyone have a rough guide for replacing them? Why is it $900 to get done if it is so simple?

They claimed that they could do just a little bit of it for $700.
